Why do some people get so bent out of joint about shit like this? Prince is a musician. He wants money just like the rest of us. The difference is he has a commodity that is desired by us the public. If he chooses to sell the album in retail stores then you have no right to question him or his motives. He has to have money to continue making more music and to enjoy the lifestyle he chooses. I have been a member of the NPGMC since the get go and I have never taken for granted that the material I recieved would be exclusive. The people who couldn't afford to join the club have the same right to that material as I do. Some of you peeps need to really get over yourselves. You joined a club for a musician and now you think you are the only ones that deserve to recieve new material. Get a grip. That's not the way business works.
So, Prince, more power to ya. If you haven't planed on doing it before now, consider it. Lots of love to you all.

I agree with Starfish and coffee. It wouldn't matter to me if Prince releases ONA retail and I hope he adds more tracks to it and maybe changes the mixes. It would be cool and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. And I think it would do very well Sales wise. Chill Out already.

good. the more people who get the chance to hear ONA, the better. it's a great album and i hope it does really well.
i agree w/STARFISHNCOFFEE - i've never assumed the NPGMC material i receive would always remain totally exclusive to Club members. we got to hear the ONA album first, before the general public..so what's wrong with Prince now putting it out there for *everybody* to enjoy? and, true, in the end he IS also a businessman. his music is how he earns his living.

When they anounced that we would get four CD's this year, they also stated that we would hear them before anyone else did.
So to me, it was already obvious that they would also be sold in stores. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It should bother me in a way... since I do live outside the US, and thus the only real benefit of being a member is the cd's for me... unless he decides to tour here... , I'm not holding my breath on that one..
However it doesn't truly bother me at all... the more people who are exposed to it, the better. It's a beautiful album, and more people should hear it. As Aerogram said "Two or three months of exclusivity is fine with me ." I want people to hear the album... there are always those who will be discovering Prince for the first time, so yea, I don't want his music getting lost in oblivion... or only experienced by NPGMC members.. There are WAY too many other things to worry or concern oneself about... this is not one that will be getting me all hot and bothered... . I'll buy it if it goes retail since I am not the one to pay the NPG $100.00 of my money upfront
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
While I agree he'll get blasted should ONA make retail the small print has always offered "first to receive" rather than "exclusivity". Nowhere has it ever said the CDs won't be released in shops eventually...

I hope that it does go retail. It opens ppl up to Prince, regardless of how many copies he sells. Most of what was on the NPGMC ended up on cd boots anyway. So even if you are a member or not, you're going to find the music in some form or fashion. I will buy the album retail andbe pleased that I did. Even if the album stinks, like I've heard ppl say, I get it because I like Prince's music that much. Hell, I even bought Chaos and Disorder, listen to it for two weeks or so and filed it away. I know everyone on this site is a Prince completist. If there's something out there and you want it you're going to get it. Just be happy that ppl are getting new music.

I do hope that the retail version will be different from the NPGMC version (even though I doubt it), so the NPGMC version will have some collectors value. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Going retail, huh? Well gee, it'd be nice if he'd compensate with some new DOWNLOADS! (Am I the only one who feels for $100 a year, we should have CD's AND downloads? It's not like it would cost them more $ or anything. Just server space.)
If he needs extra $, why doesn't he sell those impossible to find concert CD singles (Peace, SuperCute, Daisy Chain, D.O.W.-Montreal, heck, even The War CD) on the site? Pretty much everyone on this list would buy them, am I right? It CAN'T be THAT profitable to print up only a small number to sell at the shows, you know? Peace, Friends... Joni

Whatever it is just release it... This guy should be releasing at least 2 albums per year instead of leaving us all hanging 4 more like this.
and why not on retail?!!?, I've always hoped that Prince would continue to sell his music in the "traditional" manner but with a different marketting plan, and with NPG stamped all over it... -"If U don't like,
what U see here -get the FUNK out."

So, you have no problem paying $25 per "exclusive" CD, even though you could buy it for say $12 dollars as a non-member after only waiting an extra month or two? Blah, blah, blah the benefits of the club make up for the difference in price. Well, not for those who didn't get to see Prince on tour. Prince is a jerk. This album will sell two dozen copies at most.

Oh come on!
Are the people nagging about a POSSIBLE retail edition of ONA the same who copied to almost every fuckin' FTP download site all over the world? I've seen loads of ONA pirated copies in circulation, but I'm still happy with my legal copy I received from the NPGMC. For all the folks unable/unwilling to join the NPGMC this cd should be available. I didn't become a member to be 'a good friend of Prince who will get special music just for him only'. Hell no, I'm supporting his musical career. Marc.
