I like this song, but I still feel as if prince didn't try on this one. His voice sounds like he has just woken up, just wish there was more emotion in the guys voice on this one.

He puts the spiritual thing out there ..and then gets disapointed no one grasps it. When he stops feeding the sex maniacs correctly , maybe itll be more evident.

Has it ever occured to anyone here, that maybe sometimes Prince sounds the way he does on purpose? Like when Carol Burnett injects humor into her voice and the song she sings. Maybe Prince is not trying to burn the barn here. Maybe he's trying to get us to listen to him.

I think it’s just the Kiddie-orgers that don’t get it.

I think it’s a very pretty song. I like when prince records something unexpected, that’s why im a fan,…….. and that’s why I don’t like "Black Sweat" too much,... sounds like something he has done before but so much better.

In time the people that say they don’t like it will say something like "it took a really long time but it really grew on me"

Its one of the best prince songs in quite some time.

I disagree, homey mantel...

To give it a latin name, latins being known for our spice, our flava, our passion for all things SEXY...and then give us a song that is latin in name only. There is no passion in his voice. This song vocally is dead weight.
That's not even mentioning the lame-o lyrics to this song.

I was expecting so much more...

nice video though...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Tragic thing is that if it was revealed that Wendy or Lisa (or both of them) produced, arranged, or wrote one note of this song a ton of people who hate it would automatically decide that it was suddenly deep and introspective and worthy of listening to. neutral

People are hard on the song because it's lifeless. It isn't particularly awful or embarassing, but it never really turns into anything.

It's just a bland ballad that's "there."

It might be a lovely song.... only heard it once, thought it was a 'nice' ballad, fairly safe, lovely guitar... that's about all.

What irked me about the release was the laziness of the CD:
No b-side (or other album tracks) - I still can't let that go.
It seemed like there was an assumption people were going to go and buy it.

I have no real opinion on the song yet. Can't wait to hear it in its true location, as part of the album's sequence.

Sos I'm not making anything complicated. And yes it's just my opinion but when he played it live at the Brits (coincidentially with W&L )folks came on and posted how much better it sounded. When it truth it sounded just the same. No better and no worse.

It highlights the fact that Prince has a high standard to meet as he's often produced wonderful music (less so lately), and that he missed the mark by a great margin with this lifeless, bland, wallpaper of a track. There's no emotion, there's nothing innovative, the songwriting is pedantic, and the lyrics are uninspired.

But if you like it, more power to you.

pedantic? emotionless? don't see how these words work in reference to this song... there's a lot of love in this song and its not overwrought...it's subtle.... are you sure you're using the word pedantic corrrectly?

It's pretty but boring. There's nothing in this song that really grabs my ears and makes me want to pay attention, even after repeat listenings.

The single was lazy too. Even Backstreet Boys can manage a B side. hmph!
