Good thing I own all of this stuff and I have all of it in it's remastered glory. This set IMHO is a waste of money and time. When will Prince get his due justice from these record companies? This set is wack and in NO way represents the best of Prince. Just my 2 cents.

For those of you who don't have the time, money, skills or will to remaster stuff yourself, I would highly suggest investing in a real good sound system and buying yourself a BBE Sonic Maximizer. That little piece of gear will turn your music inside out. It's unbelievable how much "music" we are missing without the right gear. Even if you don't own a quality sound system, a BBE will enhance any system. Check out out if you get a chance. I've been using one for years and I'd swear by it. -Mg

You can certainly improve your music by putting it through such programs, but I wouldn't call it 're-mastering' as such. Remastering is when original recorded individual tracks (drums, bass, guitar etc) are used to re-record a new master recording using better equipment than was originally available, which is then used to create all the new CDs. So you get CDs with better balance and less muffled instrumentation.

As far as I understand it.

Programs like you talk about mimic the process by raising the volume of the treble, bass, lower static etc but don't recognise individual instrument tracks as such but it's a different process to true 're-mastering'.

You are correct, I'm just trying to help out the people who don't really like the sound of the material they have. -Mg

I personally like the track listing, and i think it's a novel approach. Sure I would like to see some changes... If I had my way, i would get rid of Money Don't Matter 2night and Delirious and add the 12 inch mix of Mountains... and put them all chronological, rather than having the mixes on disc 2.

But that's a minor quibble. I think it's a novel approach, and i'm REALLY looking forward to some of these 12 inch mixes - in particular Let's Work and Hot Thing.

I think that going back to the original masters and taking them apart as such would be a great thing to do, I know I'd like to do it... But any re-mastered stuff I've heard just doesn't have to feel of the originals, I listen to it once and want to hear the origanals instead. The bass heavy snares that he used were bass heavy because he mixed them that way and was part of his creative process. If 'Kiss' was redone in line with todays type of drum feel then would there be no bass in the snare and the bass drum have all the bottom end? That's not how he intended it. There's reverse reverb on that snare too... could that disapear too? I'd like to listen to what could be done with the 80's stuff but I don't think it could replace it.

I listened to disc 1 the other day on a stream of it that was linked elsewhere. Providing that stream was the genuine article, then the only thing I would really have changed would be My Name Is Prince. I like the track and don't mind the Tony M rap, (although obviously would prefer an alternative!), but the rap on this has been made worse if you can believe that. If the version streamed is the final version then no no no!. It sounds like it jumps when DICK is edited out and a part is repeated instead. Hopefully this isn't real.

Other than that it seems fine to me and I'm really looking forward to disc 2 because I haven't heard a lot of those versions.
RIP sad
