Hey everyone
I was just wondering if P has ever released an instrumental version of PR. I'm trying to find a song for my music appreciation class and I was thinking of using an instrumental PR if it exists.

and if not, does anyone have any recommendations for a song to take in?

Gotta Shake This Feeling off the Neon Rendezvous bootleg is probably the only thing that comes close to an "instrumental"version of Purple Rain but actually it´s just an improvised, ad-libbed song/rehearsal jam which incorporates bits and pieces from Another Lonely Christmas sung over Purple Rain.

By the way, was there ever another version of Gotta Shake This Feeling ?

i have the album version, stripped of any vocals and guitar. its drums, bass, keys and strings.

Just FYI, there's a messed up version (as in fucked with by someone) on some bootleg which has just the string track taken from the fullblown version of the First Avenue gig + strings (which isn't on bootlegs...)

This procedure is actually called phase-cancellation which was originally discovered just by an accident (and it can be a constant source of grief in some studios). Only sounds that are located EXACTLY in the middle of the stereo-field (where a mono-processed vocal track would actually often be) can be taken-out, but usually only to a certain degree as there has been all kinds of leakage in the process.

With the new-line of third generation sequencer programs etc. All these soft synths and plug-ins that have come out recently sound pretty much the same as the previous ones to my ears. They just change the graphics and give it some silly name, and that's the marketin ploy. And hardware on the other hand.... what hardware?

Odds and sods such as Yamaha An1x, Yamaha Ex7, 303 and 505 Groove boxes, Akai S20 and one of those SP808 thingys... Groove sampler... that's it. Had guitars in there too, rhythm, bass and lead for a laugh. Used to like linking it up to an old Mac with an even older Logic fun for sequencing. Had an ok mixer too emm.. can't think what it was called but it's a spirit 14:2 type thingy... very technical discriptions eh?
