I love the beginning, when he plays Lets Go Crazy into She's Always In My hair (he should always play this live) and then U Got The Look & Kiss, but thats about as far as my love for it goes. Some of the performances suck big time. I think that contains my least favourite rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U ever. He and Rosie just murder the song.

i hate this video! it's so overedited and choppy, and the performance seems to lack the spontaneity that makes prince shows better than normal concerts. there might be one or two cool moments where prince does something fun on his guitar, but overall i think this is a crummy video from a crummy time in prince's career. i only own it because i found a weird chinese import of it with an interesting liner notes booklet.

The one female dancer was annoying to watch. (the one with the white hair).

I was there for the taping! Great show to see live! I'm on the DVD for about 3 seconds in a crowd shot (It would have to be during the Larry Graham section wouldn't it?) There was a lot of stuff that did not make the DVD like George Clinton, Prince and Jonny Lang jamming etc. Big time fun!

Couldn't agree more - it's the only Prine performance that I will probably never watch again. - Embarassing.

Keep in mind I *LOVED* the Rave In2 remix album...as much as I hate that era for Prince, I'd like to think I'm not the type to throw babies out with bathwater. But if that video were the only thing I'd ever seen of his, I wouldn't be a fan now.

I got this about 2 months back, and it's the best live performance ive seen from prince. It's also a cool bonus that lenny kravitz does a couple of songs, cause he is one of my favs.

That's the saddest statement I've ever read. Ever.

Rave Un2 the Year 2000 is my absolute least favorite Prince performance ever. And this is coming from a 20+ year fan. Horrible. Horrible. Godawful. Horrible.

Well keep in mind i have only seen a few live shows. Rave un2, live at the aladdin and lovesexy dortmund. The aladdin show is an absolute pile of crap! And lovesexy is good, but it's pretty borin to watch and alot better to listen to. And im sure there are much better shows than rave, but it's a cool show to watch!!

It has its moments. Shes Always in My Hair is the only performance I usually watch. Baby Knows, Nothing Compares 2 U, and TGRES are also pretty cool. Nothing spectacular though.

I always thought Prince looked very sexy in it. But the audiance seemed like zombies. They didn't do a good job of transfering the energy of the crowd to film.

is it true that he started the show over after doing the first 2 numbers.
because of guitar truble.

Yes, except I don't think it was guitar trouble. I think it was that one of the cameras recording the show was not working. He said something like "sorry, a camera is not working. We'll take a short break and be right back." then about 20 minutes later came back and di the first three songs over.

Now that I think about it, I have the original on videotape...I forgot that Johnny Lang was on it, and George Clinton. The show was on pay per view

nod
I really cringe when I watch this DVD...sorry. I ripped the audio out of it and made a CD that I listen to from time to time, but the blue suit, uninspired songs and sleeping crowd keep me away from this one most of the time.

I like when he and Larry are jamming on their basses, cause I haven't seen too many performances of Prince playing bass. And I like when he blows Lenny out of the water on AW, but other than that...eh. I had to skip Purple Rain and the Christ b/c I didn't buy the DVD for a church sermon. (barf) The crowd looked LAME and the female dancer was annoying. (In general, I'm not a fan of back-up dancers.)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Well...not to make you more sad, but I would say this disc is far and away the weakest official live video release of Prince's career.

Of ANY career, to be honest. Someone who mentioned ripping the audio for the music; that is the only way to enjoy the concert. Watching it is like having your pubes waxed.

I really, really, really don't get all the hate for this DVD, aside from the spastic editing (and Cynthia's horrible off-key vocals on "Everyday People"). But whatta' ya' gonna' do?

One thing I've learned since joining this site is that none of us ever agree on ANYTHING (except maybe 'Joy in Repetition').
