Why I became a Prince Fan

When spending most of your life as an avid Michael Jackson fan the way you approach music and what it offers you are very different. Then when you are a Prince fan the way you hear music and understand what "real" productions gives your understanding of music an entire new depth.

(Disclaimer - I have yet to hear every Prince song, so my post is very subjective...)

When I stumbled upon Live in Las Vegas in the early fall of 2005, I was absolutely floored. I couldn't believe I was listening to music that put most of the trifling, commercialized, and synthesized music I was used to listening to, to absolute shame. I was watching a real concert, not full of fire works and big titontrons that showed nothing, but I was watching a personalized testament to how music is played live.

After that night I was absolutely hooked. I wanted more... I needed more... I then took a trip to New York (not connected to anything Prince) and when I went there, one of my biggest goals was to find "One Nite Alone Live". I almost didn’t find because I didn’t look hard enough in Virgin Mega Store.

When I listened to the entire concert from start to finish, I again was absolutely taken to a new level of what real live music should sound like. That live compilation changed my life forever.

Now, that I've experienced more as a Prince, I've begun listening to alot of his music and understanding the progression of his career. It took all my life to understand and follow the life and career of Michael Jackson (I'll never leave his side as fan...) But as young man that enjoys and lives on music, Prince music has depth and understanding that Michael Jackson has never given.

Prince's music from IWBYL up to Black Sweat, have given me some of the best understanding that "real" music only comes from real and true artist.

I'm a Prince fan because his music is real and true. There are very few artist who offer real and true music that takes you to levels of understanding you've never been before.

My favorite Prince Songs: (I'm a new Funk Solider, so forgive me...)

1. Purple Rain
2. Everlasting Now (One Nite Alone Live)
3. Kiss
4. Rainbow Children (One Nite Alone Live)
5. Joy in Repetition
6. Musicology
7. Controversy
8. I wanna be your lover
9. Nothing Compares to You
10. Avalanche

I will by the end of the year have every Prince album on my iPod and on CD. Much like I have every Michael Jackson album, but Prince has a much larger catalog than Michael.

cool.

I think I first got into prince to bug my parents. It worked But I got PWND in church by the pastor! MOM found Controversy and took it to him. When he saw the 2nd and last songs he had a fit. During church he was going on and on about this gay singer and how all his songs were about gay sex and one was about homosexual anonymous masturbation in public. I had NO Idea what he was going one about until he called my name and said "care you explain this?" I did not say much. But get this after church I had to explain myself to the pastor WHO SPANKED me! That night they had a record burning. But my dad did not take us.

Thats just sick in itself. What gives a pastor the right to administer corporal punishment?

Gay singer?

I'm now working on becoming a member of the NPG Music Club, because I'm buying all of my albums from the NPGMC, thus I know where the time and effort went. Not only that... makes it easier to put them on my Ipod!

I was just about to say that. I love the Lord dearly but homeboy obviously didn't listen to the song (he wouldn't have liked it any which way lol ) but to call you by name? I would have gotten up and left and never went back.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

As someone who has been heavy into Prince for 24 years I want to welcome you to the purple groove. I was into the J5/Jacksons/MJ back in the day, (telling my age biggrin ) but Prince has been my number one since I first discovered his music. Don't forget to check out Housequake.com also. There's a wealth of information there as well.

There's so much to explore in the Prince world. I wish you a joyful journey!
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

The wonder of the opposite sex...

I was going out with a girl back in 1988, her birthday came upon me;
"What do you want for your birthday?"
"Prince hsa a got a new album out...."
"Ok."

So I went out and bought Lovesexy. Now, this was the time of turntables and proper 12" record, so I had to make sure the thing wasn't scratched.... I started listening to the first side of Lovesexy and I was hooked. By the time "Lovesexy", the track, Came round I was ... ahem ... dripping all over the floor.

I had a splendid adventure that next few months fidning the back catalogue, singles an all.... something you couldn't do now.

I have a simlar story. i started off as an Michael Jackson fan, but my musical taste or craving is now more prince all though i still love MJ "stranger is moscow" is amazing! and i'll still drop everything i'm doing if he's any where near me. but he just doesnt do enough for me on the musical side. hasnt realsed an album 5 years hasnt toured 9 years, just doesnt seem not wanting 2 do it anymore... which is fine he been in biz since he was 5, and now had 3 kids under 10 and no wife. that's hard. Plus he said himself he doesnt want 2 make pop albums anymore he even said that he hates pop music and has always wanted 2 make classcail albums (i say go for it mj) he doesnt even talk about music when people ask him what he wants 2 do artisctcally (sp), he says he wants to write and direct movies ( again go for it) So, for me prince just offers me more in qauinty and the style i'm looking 4. that's what i'm more of a prince fan the mj fan now (musically)

MY MOM!

But yeah he must have listend to it he was going on and on about it... I was not really paying that close attention until he said my name, but it was like "same three words over and over."

The pastor was very anti-gay. So it was not suprize he would make that assumption. He is most of the reason i do not go to church. Being faithful and all that dosen't require hateing people.

My Mom has apologized for lots of things, she was/is not the most stable person.
