Which version of Witness 4 The Prosecution.. .. you reckon would land on the Dream Factory configuration? The "live" version, or the one that starts with him speaking "This is the story of 2 childhood sweethearts..."

And another thing. What configuration had "Movie Star" seguing into "A Place In Heaven"?
So do you like environmental records? I gather the version of "A Place In Heaven" on Dream Factory is the one with Lisa singing, not Prince. 1986 edit [Edited 2/26/06 21:26pm]

It's the first version, the "live" version as you say.
This version was recorded March/April '86, and it was finished off without Prince, by Wendy/Lisa/Susannah/Eric. The later version (the 'two childhood sweethearts' one) was recorded Oct 6th 1986. RE: Movie Star. It's the 03/06/86 version I presume, it's the only tracklist where both tracks are in sequence, and you're right it's the version with Lisa on vocals. The Dream Factory - 3rd June 1986

I prefer the later electro version myself, altough they really aren't even the same track - the difference is that big.
i dig the Lisa's vocals on "A Place In Heaven" far much more than Prince's version. He just sounds like a hungry cat on that one, too prissy for him. Altough one has to wonder whether anything can be too prissy in the universe for Prince.

One of the things I like about Witness is that it shows the evolution of Prince's sound.
You have the earlier version, which is full on latter Revolution-era, then the next version, which points towards The Black Album, is almost a proto-Rave(88)/Batman era sound, sparse, electronic.

I think I like this one the best (with "It's A Wonderful Day")! VERY "And The Revolution" with this tracklist. [Edited 2/27/06 8:27am]

I like that Wendy & Lisa version of "Strange Relationship" with the Indian sounds.

How do you all feel about "Train"?
I've had these songs for so long, I'm just now advancing past the 1985 content...

Train is a lot of fun. It makes me think of the world as a better place knowing that somebody has written music like that, but I don't think it's necessarily release-worthy material. At least compared to most that he officially put out at that time.

"Train" is amazing, IMO. So different.
I really cannot listen to the electro version of "Witness". I like the live rock version so much more. In fact it's one of my maybe top5 outtakes.

I remember 3 distict versions of this song.
The first one avail on black album/crystal ball boot is a live studio with raw guitar and wah. The 2nd is the band with horns Revolution track on Dream Factory The 3rd is the electro funk rumoured to be recorded in 1988. I prefer the first 2. Music is the best...
