Let's Go Crazy Extended vs Computer Blue ext

Let's go crazy was released as a single, yet i have always thought that Computer Blue extended is far superior. What do you guys and girls think??

Computer Blue extended is definitely a killer song and one of my favorites but, thinking back about the time when it came out, I have to say that releasing the extended version of Let´s Go Crazy was the better decision.I might be wrong but looking back in retrospect Computer Blue wasn´t even close to popular among most listeners back then, no matter how much of a cult classic it is today.

Let´s Go Crazy and When Doves Cry were THE songs of the summer, and people were blasting Let´s Go Crazy all over the place.
Sure, the long version of Computer Blue should have been released too, I still find it unbelievable that it hasn´t been officially released but not at the expense of the LGC extended version.

Not all people back then were really "ready" for that masterpiece that is Computer Blue, a lot of casual Prince fans in the early eighties considered it the "odd" song on that album, or the less popular one even though, in my opinion, it is an integral part of the movie and essential to the whole album, I simply love that song and its dark atmosphere, as weird as it sounds, it is to Purple Rain what Something In The Water is to 1999...a timeless, dark and angry classic Prince song but both wouldn´t have been great choices as singles.

Of course this is just an opinion, a "what if" sort of discussion but I also vaguely remember a review in Barney Hoskyns book "Prince:Imp Of The Perverse" where Computer Blue got dissed, all I´m saying is that not everybody dug Computer Blue in 1984.

That being said, Computer Blue may be superior, even though I don´t really want to compare the two, but Let´s Go Crazy was the better choice for a single.

they are both great. It took me a while to realize that the jam session by the Revolution in the movie when Price jumps up on stage during a rehersal (that Wendy and Lisa fail to showup to) is actually them playing part of the full version of Computer Blue. That jam is so funky but so is the full blown version of Lets Go Crazy in fact that version seems almost like a completely different song from the radio edit. I remember seeing the movie and thinking you have got to be fucking kidding me towards the middle and end (again of the full version) that shit is so funky

I love them both...but for different reasons
Dance... Let me see you dance

they're both great, and Computer Blue (regular or extended) is one of my
favorite tracks, but it's just NOT single material.

It would have been nice for it to have been released as the b-side to
something though (then we could've had the extended version released on 12")

See, that´s exactly what I´m saying, thank you. Two great, great tracks but Computer Blue is more of a fan´s favorite cult classic than a potential single hit.

And yes, the long version should´ve been released....I mean people here still discuss the greatness of the socalled " hallway speech " version on a regular basis.. lol

the guitar on Computer Blue is imo as near perfection than anything else ive heard.

The extended version with the Hallway Speech is top notch.
I still like Lets Go Crazy though it is also brilliant.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Personally, I'd have liked to have seen it used as the b-side to Take Me With U
instead of Baby I'm A Star. Then he could've released a 12" version as well
with an extended version of Take Me With U (maybe recorded in rehearsal like
the extended version of I Would Die 4 U. Just think of a long version on
record like the one used as a video!) and it could've had the extended version
of Computer Blue on the b-side.
