1. DUH. I know Anna Stesia isn't about "bisexuality" I was referring the part about the "take anyone boy or girl" lyric which sounds bi-sexualish...

Yup, that has sounded like a mention of bisexuality to me since I first heard it back in '88. In the context of that song, it's the only explanation that makes sense, imo.

Some people (laura) need to get a grip.

That is almost too straight-forward for Prince talk... biggrin

How about...

(ring, ring)
Prince: Hello, Wendy?
Wendy: Yes, Skipper.
Prince: Eye just had a dream about U...
Wendy: Err.. WHAT???!
Prince: ..sent 2 me bi the gr8 Jehovah.
Wendy: Ohhhh...Err, sure.
Prince: Eye had a vision of a huge digital garden and in the sky above was a message in the clouds that said "Wendy must stop eating fish."
Wendy: I thought you stopped doing X?

Me too. I usually try to shy away from assigning meaning to other's people work without knowing where they were coming from, but this is the only thing I could think that line might've been in reference to. shrug

Anyone have any other interpretations?

well, it could also be in the context of addressing an audience composed of both sexes... hmmm that's the only other explanation i've been able to come up with.

The issue is that he sings "take anyone boy or girl" in reference to wanting to 'play with someone so much'... Now, I can't see how the sex of the other person would matter when it comes to 'playing' unless, of course, it's sex play. (Even if it was for the sake of the audience, the gender would be a pointless issue unless it was concerning sexual activity).

Have U ever been so lonely
That U felt like U were the
Only one in this world?

Have U ever wanted 2 play
With someone so much U'd take
Any one boy or girl?

What is the maximum loneliness? To feel so lonely that you would even hook up with someone regardless of your sexual orientation - if you're a straight guy, you would sleep with a man, if you're a gay guy, you would sleep with a girl etc. just to fight that feeling inside of you.

So, yes, it is a reference to bisexuality, but not Prince's confession of being bisexual. It is a mention of bisexuality degraded to a "tool" just to fight the emptiness inside of you.

Just my 2 cents of course...

There was that other story of course that Bart Van H used to hark on about. In the news section of one of the old official sites was a story about a gay guy coming up to Prince saying "you look FAB-U-LOUS" and that a disgusted Prince thus directed him to the gay member of the NPG band.

If nothing else the above sounds a bit like he was having a go at the NPG's gay/bi member. Hints to even out him even.

That was not directed at you, man. I know there is no loneliness in this world that would ever drag you away from guys. biggrin biggrin biggrin (Nor would I ever flip sides and give up on the girls...)
