was the Sheridan, Wyoming fiasco a bad omen for UTCM? yeah 90% of the few people who actually saw UTCM in the theaters thought it was pretty bad, but would the movie have actually fared BETTER OR WORSE if that contest winner had been from a major metropolitan area, like NYC, LA or Miami? not knocking the good folks of Sheridan, Wyoming (all 12 of them), but when they pulled that name out of bowl, Prince was doomed.

I think the movie being so bad was probably what did it in. I don't think the Sheridan, Wyoming thing had anything to do with it. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I'm in the 10% that loved it, I guess, but I do get what you're saying. This post has me kinda worried about that whole "purple ticket" scenario. I mean, what if all the winners are from places like NobodieseverheardofPrince, Utah or Princewho, Nebraska? You know places where there's only one cd shipped to the whole darn state.

yep it stunk, but when you go from having an MTV premiere with dozens of a-list celebrities (at the time anyway) to having a premiere with blue-haired bingo players and john deere fanatics, you just kind lose some of that luster. it was a disaster from a public relations stand point. i've seen far worse movies with more scathing reviews do better than $2 million dollars in one week. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person
