Did anyone read in the Daily Mail today that Prince apparently ordered a magnified mirror for his dressing room to make himself look bigger. They print that tripe, but nothing about his performance. http://www.goldiesparade.co.uk/ - Prince discography, tour history, news and more.

Massive smile on my face all the way through! Awesome, awesome, awesome performance. ITV showed the *entire* thing. And boy, did it sound better than the radio broadcast last night - all those complaining about sound quality, this was perfect, must've been the radio. Things I absolutely loved: (1) The cool introduction from UK presenter Chris Evans. All he said was "And now.....Prince." Cool as hell. (2) Prince did such a tight set. Gone was the Las Vegas feel. No horns, no extended jams. Just tight, tight, tight, numbers - back to the tight pop song style. Maybe limited time worked in his favour here. Unlike the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 concert, there were no Larry Graham-influenced overblown extended-to-death jamming. (3) Prince - so DAMN cool, SO SO confident - he was incredible, terrific performance. "Fury" was awesome, blew me away. A tight, concise, mindblowing performance from our hero! He just reallly really looked like he was enjoying himself up on that stage tonight, he really did. (4) Sheila E - damn, she looks *so* beautiful tonight. Seems to get more and more attractive as the years go by. Her look was so different to the Vegas One Night Alone tour, she looked *very* hot playing those drums tonight. (5) I loved the way Prince surrounded himself with beautiful women on stage. Goodbye JW limitations, I guess. Was that Wendy on keyboards?! Couldn't tell. Prince kissed Tamar during the performance of Purple Rain. Oh, hopefully good riddance Larry Graham - Prince is back to being Prince by the looks of this! Just awesome. Honestly can't get across how terrific this performance was. I'm listening to my Minidisc recording of it again right now, the quality really is 1000 times better than the radio broadcast mp3 last night many have heard. For all those who haven't seen it yet, you're in for a major treat. If you're in the UK, it's being repeated Saturday afternoon from 15:40. David Number 1 - notice that was recorded back stage...I dont think the "and now Coldplay" surprise woudl have worked for TV

Man, WTF are you talking about? Larry hasn't played with Prince's band in ages, give the guy a break - the man is funk ROYALTY and a great musician too. No one is to blame for Prince's wacky JW shit in recent years but Prince himself. If you doubt Larry's funk credentials, go listen to some old Sly or GCS records. Ian [Edited 2/16/06 13:34pm] Ian - just reread my posting, actually in hindsight it was a bit harsh on Larry. Apologies if any offence caused, personally I loved "The Rainbow Children", and I know he had a major contribution on that album.

Sure sounds like the Grammies x 10 artistically.

Sure sounds like the Grammies x 10 artistically. Far, far better. This performance will definately benefit him saleswise in the UK, i expect Purple Rain will likely be in the UK album charts in the next week or so. As the Brits tend to react to stuff they see on TV! I really hope it carries over for both 'The Ultimate' and 3121.

Just seen it, and it confirms why he's got me as a fan for life. I loved his performance, my sister who ain't that into him, said "no-one else is gonna match up to that tonight" and straight after I got a text message from a friend I haven't seen for months and it said:
"Prince is a legend isn't he Rach? I so know what you mean now!!" So true, a legend indeed!

Just watched my DVD recording now. Bloody brilliant! Hope he sticks to this minimalist band as well. Was worried after reading yesterday's posts about Sheila dropping beats but I guess that was just down to poor radio quality. I thought they all kicked ass! Very pleased to se Wendy on guitar - she may not be the monster player that Mike Scott is, but she understands Prince better than anyone. Her playing embeliishes and complements Prince's playing perfectly and provides the most authentic Prince sound. Next bring back Eric Leeds and on with world domination! Oh oh oh, and at last, some real eye candy to boot!!
By the way, I've never quite got Chris Evans' Prince thoughts - I know he was really pissed when P didn't turn up for the Radio 1 show years back - did he ever get over it? I wasn't too sure about his intro, was it "cool" or "bored"?

Oh, one feeling I did get watching it - it was liked he gatecrashed the place [and all the better for it!] I mean, he's not nominated for anything, he's american, he's been missing from the UK scene for some time [he didn't bring musicology here] and he comes on and plays for 12 minutes!! including 80s classics!! - it just didn't seem to have anything to do with the Brits and it just crapped over the other performers!! They must've felt pretty intimidated!!

Watched it again!! I so feel like I do when I see my children perform at school!
"That's MY baby!! That's MY baby, right there!!" I am sooooo happy, MY Prince is back!! Kicking ass and taking names!!!

What I hate, is people and media always seem to make a jibe about Prince's height. It is clearly because they are so intimidated by his talent that is the only way they can bring him down to their level - 'He may be a living legend, but I'm taller than him, so I win' sort of thing. Incidently, although I thought Prince stole the show, I thought a lot of other performances were quite alright and far from being 'talentless' - the whole show was a lot rawer and better than the Grammies which seems very 'plastic' by comparison. You may not be fans of those other artists, but all they can do is play their songs the way they know how. A lot of them are after all in only their first year of stardom - in comparison, Prince wasn't all that good when he started off performing on TV, remember that awful outfit when he was peforming 'Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad' or whatever it was? Takes time to hone your craft. [Edited 2/16/06 15:27pm]

Just watched it again, it was like a finale or encore from a concert, great build up to the mood, it really is a great performance even by his standards. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

People that just stand there and play tend to bore the hell out of me personally. You always get your money's worth with P.
