He never said he wouldn't perform any of the older songs, just that he was retiring SOME of them. It was the press that said it the wrong way.

He told Leno he was performing his old hits for the last time...and he'd miss playing purple rain the most!

I never believed...It would be insane never to play those songs again.

LisasBrush

FUCKING AWESOME. I'm so excited to hear/see this!!!!

And my greeting when I came to this thread:

Welcome to "the org", LisasBrush… I'm gonna give U the brush and U're gonna paint the side of the train.

I hope this reunion is the start of something more, but truly, just that they all have finally played together makes me really, really happy.

I checked the tv schedule link in the other thread and it said that it will air on BBC over here but not until April 15th.

sad No 17 Days... oh well. Sounds like an awesome performance. 2006 is shaping up quite nicely in the world of Prince fandom. woot!

Besides Sheila, Wendy & Lisa, who else played with him?

What was he wearing?

Details people we need details!! biggrin
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Hey, this has not been on TV yet, how should we know? And the people in attendance surely don't have a laptop handy.

I recall him telling Leno that he wouldn't be playing the hits "for a while". I remember it because it struck me how carefully chosen the words were.

Maybe he meant he wouldnt perform old songs IN THE USA again.....he could rationalize it that way.

Betting the tour will be mostly hits in europe...american hiberNATION for 2 more years....

I hope he doesn't try to rationalize and just pretends like he never said anything. If he plays When Doves Cry at a concert I promise his fans will not be mad at him for playing it.

There was just another American on, presenting, saying that as an American he has to say that Bush is an idiot, than said that he met Prince backstage and therefore now can live happily. Guess he rocked the house!

Ikaros

Details?

Te amo corazon

Slower than on record; intro and first verse just Prince's guitar, Sheila's conga's, synthesized flute, second verse full band, into guitar solo. Into chorus - backing vocals (sounds like Sheila).
Then; the official guitar solo, into chorus (like on record). After which they break down, guitar noodling...

1, 2, 3, 4

Fury!

Heavy on synthesized horns, a wah-wah electric piano is audible. Sounds like Prince is playing guitar, not sure if Wendy's on this one (shoddy live-mix). Guitar solo, directly into chorus.
Another guitar solo, Sheila playing timbales. Bridge,

Will this song have a happy ending?

Then another verse, guitar solo, backing vocals! Breakdown... into the real

Purple rain

It is Wendy playing the intro! Directly into first verse... synthesized strings, then chorus with official back-up vocals!
Guitar solo, breakdown...

Thank you very much!; into encore - audience participation.
Breakdown...

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...

Let's go crazy

Different intro, directly into offical guitar solo, Sheila playing timbales, synthesized horns. Then, sing-a-long...

Come on London! And the world...

Guitar solo, another sing-a-long... Backing vocals!

Sheila gets a solo on timbales. Breakdown...

Ending with the guitar.

A screech faintly sounding like thank you to top it off...

Details.
