3121... weak tracklist You gotta be kidding me... two years since Musicology and the new album is only 12 songs?
Black Sweat, Te Amo are just average. Beautiful Loved and Blessed is a boring, boring song that belongs on Tamar's album only. That's 3 losers out of 12 already. One has to think, Prince is a living legend and has almost infinite musical talent, and this is the best he can do? Give us 15 quality songs at least, 65 to 70 minutes. Something to dig into and enjoy. The days of a 54 minute "album" being meaningful or enjoyable are long gone, especially since the music industry is essentially dead. Just my opinon. haha, i actually laughed at that last quote.
shall we get into a debate about album lengths here? 65-70 minute albums rarely work. i thought by now people had gotten used to the idea that just cos a cd can hold 80 minutes...DOESN'T MEAN IT HAS TO! prince has also recorded Tamar's album. you don't like the songs - whoopy do. prince'll be gutted.

I'd rather have a solid 12 track album than a 15 track album containing filler, personally.
Okay, there's space to be filled on a cd but what's the point in filling it just for the sake of it? That's why we get 17 track albums these days with at least 6 songs people skip. I'm not even that old but I miss the days when artists had to fit an album into 45 minutes, usually between ten tracks. Concise and to the point. And the tracks that were included were there for a reason; not simply because the technology allowed it.

Remember Tamar's album coming out as well, and I bet that's mostly Prince songs anyway.

You'd rather have 6 good songs vs 6 filler songs, or 8 good songs vs 8 filler songs? Honestly, this album is the biggest disappointment of the year. Skip it. Well, I like Te Amo Corazon - not the best thing he's ever done but it's grown on me - and I think Black Sweat is a mini funk masterpiece. The more I hear it, the more I love it. And I've only heard the live version of 'Fury'. So... I'll wait til I hear the album.

I am amazed about you, the ones who get to hear the albums, before they are sold... You always know the weak and strong song weeks ahead of the official release. I wish I could be like you....
Why don't you just wait and c what the album will be? ... and by the way, just ask yourself how many of the "living legends" in music have had their weak moments, too ... Why is everyone just complaining nowadays? Even if the album is not good as we expect, would it be the end of the world? I guess not... Peace

now the people who are complaining about the new album not having enough tracks are the same people who will praise prince's early albums, which had like seven or eight songs on average. what's that about?

Exactly! And people wonder why so many albums from the 60's and 70's end up in 'The Best Albums Ever' lists.

Btw, isn't there a sticky to discuss "3121"...? I don't need psychic abilities to tell the 3 released tracks are average, and that a 54 minute album is not acceptable any longer. Plus, Prince has lost the ability to write good songs with a melody and hook. I'd say he lost this ability sometime after The Gold Experience. Aka, Prince's "plastic" period. I wonder how many songs on 3121 are r&bish ballads with meandering spoken lyrics and a slow, canned beat? See Call my Name, Make My Sunshine, Te Amo Corazon, SST, etc... Slow Love and TMBGITW are like Mozart compared to those songs! My prediction is that 3121 will get an overall thumbs down from an artistic (which matters) and commercial (which doesn't) perspective. My method is pretty simple: I judge stuff AFTER I've heard or seen it. If something keeps my expectations very low from the beginning (for example because I don't like the singles released prior to the album release), I don't buy it and move on to something else (I haven't bought the last two U2 albums though I'm a fan). You don't like the songs from "3121" known so far (4 I think)? Fine, your opinion! Relax...
