Will Madonna not overshadow his performance tonight though?

Is she performing her new 'amazing' song Sorry?..or just receiving her ten awards i expect she will get yawn

No i dont think she's performing, unless thats one big kept secret. Id love to see her introduce Prince onstage. Madonna giving props to prince, and him putting in a showstopping performance of Fury would make my night. Fuck the rest of the no marks appearing.

DMSR would suck, I agree (only liked by some fans - not me - and wouldn't exactly get the place going) but why exactly would playing some of his best known, and best loved, songs suck?

IF (and that's a bold, fat 'IF') he plays Purple Rain or Let's Go Crazy, I cannot help but be pissed. Although I guess we're not really the audience this is aimed at anyway.

MAYBE (and that's a bold, fat 'MAYBE'), he'll just rehearse some hits and then kick something else live. But then I guess they'll just cut him out. Anyway, we'll see/hear.

i don't think it matters what he plays...all he has to do is play a flourish from one of his hits at the beginning, and he'll have the crowd worked up enough to listen to whatever he wants to perform. seems to be how it works, anyway...

I totallly agree. For me, give me anything new, however to rebuild his profile (partic. in the UK) then he may need to 'remind' us of what he does best and is also best known for.
Also, assuming any rehearsal info is correct, why the hell would he rehearse PR and LGC if he's not per4ming them - hardly fresh jams are they?

Maybe a lil while longer - can't see any TV broadcast before tomorrow. Unless someone finds a satellite feed or some obscure channel broadcasting live.

I did mean after the performance was televised obviously! Otherwise that really would have been impressive lol

Camera phones at the ready lol

Those who are so dead set against Prince playing the hits need to keep in mind that he opened the Grammys with just such a medley in 2004. He led the newspaper and television coverage the next day for being "the highlight of the show." As we now know, that performance set in motion what would become Prince's biggest year in the U.S. since 1984.

I understand that most fans don't want to hear the old hits played again. I'll bet that Prince feels the same way, for the most part. But considering how successful he was with this strategy the last time out, I can't fault him for repeating a winning formula.

Peace, David

Im sure the three would be a medley like the Grammys, otherwise it would take up too much time with someone who is a) non BRITish, and b) not even nominated for an award.

Lets not forget that this is the Brits, Usually theres a pit at the front for people to dance, then the arena gets split up for seating etc....

Whenever I have watched the Brits in the past sometimes the dancers have just stood still, creating no party atmsosphere.....I really hope that doesnt happen tonight.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand this "if he plays Purple Rain I'll be pissed" attitude. I've been a fan since 1984 and it's always been the case that if I've seen him performing on TV or on stage I've been delighted to hear whatever he has played, even if I don't particularly like it.

Tell me, do you go to see Prince in concert and when he plays one of his most popular songs, do you say "nah - heard it before" and sit down, disgruntled?

As a fan surely you should be a fan of the artist and their music, not just the music you're hearing for the first time.

Remember that the appearance at the Brits, should it happen, is part of a "get Prince back in the public eye" campaign here in the UK and Europe (in the US he's done the "Musicology" tour, appeared on "SNL" but over here it has been very quiet since 2002) and so mis management and label will want him to play popular songs that are likely to be screened on TV. If he comes on and plays three previously unheard songs from "3121" sure, the rabid fans will be drooling, but will the audience really pay attention; more importantly, will the TV producers? On the other hand, if he comes out with a guitar round his neck, Wendy & Lisa behind him, and screams "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life", or hits the opening chord of "Purple Rain", you're looking at an instant event.

True, and if this setlist is correct, it's really only one hit, WDC. 17 days is a classic, but it wasn't a hit. And Fury's a new track.

i bet he'll do a medley. a little bit of PR, a bit of LRC, and then something new or something with another artist. like RNRHOF and the oscars, though hopefully with a new arrangement.

I know 17 Days seems an odd number, but it could be true.

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't it the first released recorded song with Wendy & Lisa on?

I know Wendy was involved with Irresistable Bitch, but not Lisa. Could Prince be taking a good old trip down memory lane?

I bet its a medley too. The Brits have NEVER let anyone do a set, other than the artist getting the lifetime achievement award.

A few artists have got away with a 7 minute medley (Robbie Williams & Tom Jones spring to mind), but no one has ever done more than one complete song.

Well, I AM happy to see him of course, espacially with Wendy and Lisa, but Purple Rain would be such an obvious choice. The easiest way out really. I know that he cannot play three new songs from 3121, but Purple Rain? Besides, if he does more than one song, he cannot do a full Purple Rain anyway.
