Prince influence in Duran Duran's Music I'm bored so I popped my Duran Duran cds. Serious is now playing. This sounds like something Prince would write. Also Skin Trade (from the masterpiece Notorious) has that princely zest... [Edited 2/13/06 3:48am]

It's no doubt that P has had some influence on a funky band like Duran. P was TOO big in the 80's for folks to not have been affected by what he was doing. Duran always had good influences, i.e. Roxy Music, Bowie, Japan, etc. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

The boys in Duran Duran have given Prince props many times. The whole Notorious album was heavily inspired by the boys catching the Parade tour, according to Nick and John.
On the tour for The Wedding Album, they snuck in a bit of "Sexy MF" while playing "Notorious". Nick also mentions a recent backstage visit from P on the most recent live DVD. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

the real question is, was nile rodgers influenced by prince? he's considered the reason for the "faux-funk" sound of notorious.
(one of their most solid, beautiful and profound, IMHO). i'm working on comparing prince's use of 7 with D2s as well. i think they have a lot of thematic similarities.

Well, Nile had produced the boys before, but my understanding was that they deliberately chose him for the album because they wanted someone who could help bring in a funk element. Nile's guitar on the title track is certainly funky! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. If you want to hear it, there was a single of "Too Much Information" that featured a recording of the live "Notorious" with the "Sexy MF" bits in it. When I saw them in 1993 (with Terence Trent D'Arby as their opening act!!!) they played it, much to my delight!
