has anyone else read this book, i just finished it and i can't believe some of the stuff i read in that book.
it's a real eye opener, how much is true or not i don't know,
but my jaw did drop a few times.

The geezer needs to retitle the book "the rise and fall and rise again of Prince".

Be careful with the information presented in the book.

A lot of fans criticize the book for being too salacious, or showing Prince in a negative light.

The author was privy to Per Nilsen's / Uptown's research for their books, so a lot of the criticism from fans is simply is mis-guided or over-emphasised.

It's an enjoyable read, but for the ultimate Prince bio, grab Per Nilsen's D.M.S.R. (which only takes you upto the end of 1987, or for a more thorough, but more of a reference type book, or chronology, try Uptown's 'The Vault'.

plus, in the book he calls bono the lead guitarist for U2.

Alhough DMSR is my favorite bio on Prince Alan Leeds said Possessed is the best biography to date on Prince and very accurate. Which gives it alot of credit.

Whoops! Er, the Edge, lol! Well he's a lawyer not a writer. Still it's the best book about Prince because it's about more then just the music, it's about the man behind the music and goes up to 2002. Per Nilsen's DMSR book is only about the 80's and mostly only about the music.

i can understand if some personal background helps explain some lyrics or the direction of a particular album, but the tabloid shit just isn't important and the speculative rubbernecking that i read in 'possessed' was stuff i wish i just hadn't read at all. i'd rather read a book full of "this was recorded at 4am" than a bunch of stalkerish crap that's probably lies anyway.

I've read the book and found it to be very intriguing.I know many fans don't like it because of the negativity ("dirt"),but I couldn't put it down.We all knew that Prince isn't a saint,anyway.

I liked the book up uptil it was clear the author was running out of people willing to talk. the pill and wine incident... i wanna know where he got that information from. but it definitely made for an interesting read.
