I was sitting next to the radio in the Mess Hall of the local prison, while futily trying to tune the radio to the Black Hip-Hop station before one of the inmates removes my ball sack and uses it as a Tea Strainer.

I was a miserable skinny smelly teenager when "Sign O the Times" came out. I was probably wearing all black clothes, and I had long hair (I had hair in those days!) and no doubt I was probably sitting on my bed forlornly plucking my guitar (that's not a metaphor) and wondering why no one understood me and why strange new hair was growing on various parts of my body. I was probably writing really pathetic poetry and stuff too.
Okay so I made that up, I wasn't that much of a wuss when I was an adolescent! I was into hiphop, I was never a goth or a whiney metal fan! But I do remember hearing "Adore" for the first time... it had immediate impact, blew my ears away. I just thought it was such a great way to finish up the album so perfectly. And no doubt I was mentally applying all those smoochy lyrics to whatever unfortunate girl I had my eye on at the time. In fact I'm pretty sure I've ripped off those lyrics for a valentines card at some point. Thanks Prince!
