Where were You? What were you doing when you 1st heard the song "Adore" ?

I remember the summer of 87 I was 15yrs old in a 6 week program at the University. I was staying in the dorm and listening to the music I brought..One Item I brought along was the 45 single of If I was Your Girlfriend/ Shockadelica.
I was listening to it through out the evening so another lover of Prince music who was rooming next to me..stopped by and said if your digging that your going to Love this.
so she handed me the Sign of the times tape which I did not have at the time. She told me to press play, that she already had it at the song she wanted me to listen ..she left and I proceeded to listen to the song...Oh my I was
thinking how beautiful that song is. I listen to it several times before I gave it to her. I told her she was right and I was hooked ever since. As soon as the program was over I made sure I was going to get a copy of Sign of the Times..and you know what song I had to listen to first. ;
wink .

Ecnirp, if you heard Adore on the Hits cd, then you only heard the edited version. Please tell me you now have the Sign o the Times cd in your collection or that you have at least heard the full version of Adore in all it's glory. WB did a great job of pulling together some of the best Hits from Prince's collection. But they really did Prince a disservice by putting edited versions of otherwise classics on the cd. I beg any newbie fan out there that may not have collected ALL of Prince's official cd albums to get them as soon as possible. Trust me, as in the case of Adore and Do Me Baby and others on the Hits cd, you're missing a lot if you don't have the full length album version.

Stop now you're making me feel BAD!!

LOL I neva felt Prince's till LAST YEAR(2001)sad well unlike my sister who have to be a SUPER FANATIC!!!. I picked up 'Rave un2 the joy fantastic' CD and I REALLY LIKED IT it was mighty cool 4 a girl who listen a lot to R&B/HIP-HOP music.

Anyway after that I bought the SOTT/HITS-B-SIDES/PR/PARADE/Sympol/Gold/Emanc and I (typicaly) the hits/b-sides was the best thang and when I downlouded the lyrics I was like DAMN 1999 ain't complete yet, Do me baby, Head, Controversy maaannn there're SSooo many edited things in that CD and that was the most messed up thang!!!

Ok as 4 SOTT, well I was (only 5 yrs old) when P released it so,,,lol.

But YES SIR ADORE is the best love song by Prince ever.

And SOTT is what I need from the brotha, you got the sexy slow jams(Slow Love-Adore) the funky vives(It-Srange relationship-If I was-Hot thang and most of all Housequake) Dance in the sunshine, starfish and coffee mmaaannn sooo much to explain.

The first time I heard 'Adore' I was home and had just got my B-sides a couple of weeks before. I was surprised because I didn't know Prince had made some R&b tunes like that and and was just looking for some funky music. The same as when I first heard 'Pink Cashmere', I then fell in love with these songs.

thank U prince 4 that song, thank U 4 all your music, thanks 4 teaching me 2 use my voice as an instrument, not just as a way 2 sing!!!

I listened 2 adore after buying the SOTT album when it came out. At that time I did have 2 get used 2 the different speeds of the singing but I really digged the song. But it is on the SOTT album and that are lot of good songs.

I was 9 and I remember my sister's (male) friend was a Prince freak-lookalike. He would even pose like him in pictures. He had every Prince, and Prince associated LP lined up on his bedroom wall in order of release. I remember being over his house and hearing it on the radio and then of course he played it all the time. I was young and innocent and fell madly in love with it. It's so nostalgic for me

I was 8 when SOTT came out and I must say I remember hearing Adore but it didn't knock me out until I was in L.A. for the first time with my Dad in 92. It came on the radio and I started to scream cause I thought it a new song but towards the end of the song, I realized that it sounded familiar. The next year, I brought The Hits/B Sides and when I read the Liner notes and it said SOTT (I think), I realized that I had the song before. I've loved it since then. It's the best love song that Prince has ever done. A true gem.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

In my area, our local R&B station (KSOL) was "spotlighting" the album a few days before it was released. They spent the whole weekend playing various tracks, and "Adore" was one of them.I pulled out a cassette and taped it.I thought it was brilliant.

Btw,those of you who live in the Bay Area...do you remember KSOL? That station was da bomb!! smile

It was 1987 -- a hot day. I was 16. I bought two copies of SOTT on vinyl that day because the first one had glue on the edges from the inner record sleeves. Remember the post card inside? I played the album all the way through. The last song I heard was "Adore" of course. I liked it, beautiful song!, but I was in a hurry to go back over all the other songs I especially liked. Later, I rewrote the "Adore" lyrics (giving some credit to Prince) and gave it to a girlfriend of mine. A year or two later, I fell in love with a piano instrumental remix version of "Adore" that I arranged. The song could repeat a hundred times and I wouldn't get bored of it. I remember a girl named "Princess" from Philadelphia dancing to this song on a television show called Dance Party USA. There was a rumor that it was going to be released as a single in the US. Not sure what happened.
