Best Prince song written for someone else?

I'm listening to Love is Contagious by Taja Seville. I LOVE this song, and also The Screams of Passion by The Family.

JUST NAME 2.
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

P didn't write those songs for them. They either licensed those songs as a whole or as a sample.

I would love to know this too.

Also I would love to know how come Sinead O'Connor ended up recording "Nothing Compares 2 U".

I seriously doubt that Prince wrote it with her in mind to sing it, as he gave it to The Family originally.
Shut up already, damn.

It was more than likely because Steve Fargnoli was her manager at the time. Being that he was formerly in Prince's employ as manager when the song was originally done, he probably got a percentage.

Also, i don't think P wrote "Love Is Contagious", only "Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me?" & "If I Could Get Your Attention." Check the publishing info & correct me if i'm wrong.

Hmmm interesting....

Thanks for that. I have always been mystified by this fact.

I remember hearing the song everywhere at the time it was released and then finding out Prince had written it.

Although I wasn't surprised that he's written it because it did sound like him.

Especially the "It's been 7 hours and 15 days".

I could NEVER work out how come she came to record it.

Ta cool
Shut up already, damn.

I remember hearing that while Sinead was working on her "I Do Not Want What I Have Not Got" album Steve Fargnoli played the song to her. She liked it and decided to cover it. She was asked why she liked it so much and just said "it's a great song." This was in an interview with her at around the time the album came out, in "Q" magazine, I think.

Love...thy will be done
Manic Monday
A Love Bizarre

Also
The Sex of It
If I Love U 2Nite

(although I prefer Prince singing these)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

you are right. it is NOT written and NOT produced by Prince. LOVE IS CONTAGIOUS was written by Sevelle, and produced by Bennet, credited as executive producers are Michael Ostin, and Benny Medina.

He is singing on it. His vocals are twinned with Apollonia's who's album it was intended for. She sounds dreadful as normal, and it isnt as good as The Bangles version, but isnt that far removed. Also the quality of the demos aint great.

My favourite all time song for someone else is A Love Bizarre.....just brilliant. I think he should release a "best of songs for others" type record. Between The Time, Sheila E, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, The Family, Jill Jones, Sheena Easton, The Bangles, Sinead Oconner, Chaka, he could release a collection demonstrating exactly how much he's written for others. He oculd have one CD with their versions on it, and a second with his versions. I would kill someone to get my hands on his demo of Nothing Compares 2 U.
