The Lady in My Life vs. Adore Someone told me earlier this week that they believe Michael Jackson's "The Lady in My Life" is a better ballad than Prince's "Adore".
I just want to hear some thoughts. During this time, Mike was a genious, and a talented song writer. Indeed, there's amazing level of passion and sincerity... and his delivery is top notch. The lyrics are also very powerful. Your thoughts please. ----- Micheal Jackson The Lady In My Life [1st Verse] There'll Be No Darkness Tonight Lady Our Love Will Shine Just Put Your Trust In My Heart And Meet Me In Paradise, Girl You're Every Wonder In This World To Me A Treasure Time Won't Steal Away [Chorus] So Listen To My Heart Lay Your Body Close To Mine Let Me Fill You With My Dreams I Can Make You Feel Alright And Baby Through The Years Gonna Love You More Each Day So I Promise You Tonight That You'll Always Be The Lady In My Life [Bridge] Lay Back In My Tenderness Let's Make This A Night We Won't Forget Girl, I Need Your Sweet Caress Reach Out To A Fantasy Two Hearts In The Beat Of Ecstasy Come To Me, Girl [Chorus] And I Will Keep You Warm Through The Shadows Of The Night Let Me Touch You With My Love I Can Make You Feel So Right And Baby Through The Years Even When We're Old And Gray I Will Love You More Each Day 'Cause You Will Always Be The Lady In My Life Stay With Me I Want You To Stay With Me... The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Thank your mama that minneapolisgenius provides us with enough fish. Seriously, I guess TLIML is nice but it's way to sugary to be compared to Adore. Adore is songwriting, musicianship and singing at its absolute best. [Edited 2/11/06 10:35am]

Michael didn't write "Lady In My Life." "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

i have never heard the Jackson track
ive never really liked him. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Was this a Michael Sembello song? Or am I mixing this up with Carousel? Just listening to the song. Hm. It doesn't do me. EDIT: to cure me, I just put in "Golden Lady" by Stevie. I like that song very much. [Edited 2/11/06 11:04am]

I should have included that in my first post ). He also wrote "Rock With You, and "Thriller," so he's definitely an excellent song writer and composer. Another Prince-MJ comparison? Alright...
LIML is a great conventional pop ballad but it cannot match Adore as a musical accomplishment. MJ sings spectacularily well but you don't think it's a page from his diary, while Prince is so obviously personal. It just comes across as far more heartfelt. Musically, Adore is also far more of tour de force.

um... hello?
Prince = funky/sexy MJ = disco-riffic very different styles / songs and attitudes and, lyrically, The Lady In My Life can't hold a candle to lines like : "if God one day struck me blind, your beauty i'd still see love's too weak to define, just what you mean to me." sorry, MJ, love ya, but P is the winner. what makes a man want to rule the world?
a double a double arrogance.

Adore is one of the best songs recorded in the twentienth century, while the Jacko song aint in the top 500. Do the math. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Okay. I honestly appreciate each artist in their own right but... Adore is a grown ass love song from a Man to a Woman. TLIML is a Hallmark card. The passion in Michael's song is lacking regardless of his wonderful excution, musically. Shake....shake, shake, shake.
