Prince in the UK

Hi all

I have been a prince fan since i was 13 years old from the moment i heard when doves cry and i have been hooked ever since and at 35 years old i feel qualified to say this.

I wish P would treat us british fans with more respect, he has not toured here since 2002, he very rarely appears on british tv or does any promotion in the uk with the exception of next weeks Brits (possibly).

When I meet people and u get talking about music and I mention P the usual response is 'r u mad he aint recorded for years!' I feel mostly their response is down to the fact that as he has never done interviews in the uk non fans dont really know him.

Enough of that now anyway just to say P do a bit more for the uk fans and keep touring. If worst comes to the worst I will be in New York in November so i can hope P is appearing somewhere around then.

Any other uk fans agree?

I'm a UK fan, but I don't agree, I think he's been pretty generous to the UK over the many years of his career, and figuring in that there are hundreds of countries he's never even visited once. He's an American artist and it is perfectly understandeable that the USA is his prime concern, just like the UK would be for a UK artist and France for a French one.

It's not like he's treating the UK worse than any other country outside of the US - he's simply not been touring in Europe since 2002, which wasn't that long ago if you consider he's really only done one tour since.

As for saying he rarely appears on UK tv:

During the Gold/Exodus era he appeared on the Sunday Show, The White Room and TOTP.

During the Emancipation era, he appeared on TOTP and The Brits.

During the Jam of the Year/Newpower Soul tour he did a tv interview or 2 including the Beautiful Strange interview which was shown on Channel 4 at the time with the show from the Cafe De Paris.

During the Rave period, he did a tv interview as well as appearing on TFI Friday/TOTP and that The Tube anniversary.

That's a pretty decent list of performances compared to most countries outside of the US. I would argue that next to the US, he has favoured the UK more than any other country.

You could argue he's never done a performance or interview on a big variety or interview-type program, but the UK doesn't really have a Leno/Letterman huge show, other than Parkinson/Jonathon Ross/Frank Skinner all of which only run short seasons at a time.

I agree that to all intents-and-purposes he's fallen off the map as far as the general public are concerned, probably in most countries, but it would only take one or two decent appearances to put that right, which hopefully he'll get around to doing sometime soon.

Man, you Brits have got it easy. Try living in Australia, he tours here every 11 years! I have no sympathy for you wink

lol Agreed. I was actually really happy for you guys when he played down under a few years back - about bloody time too! We Brits have had a fairly good innings over the years, so I don't begrudge him coming back every few years - time flies...y'know?

I agree britain hasn't done too badly but I've got everything crossed that he'll come back soon. I really can't afford to fly out to another country so I will be devastated if he misses Britain out if he tours.
Time is a trick....

I'm a big fan too... have been for *thinks* 20 years! since i first heard 'ATWIAD' when i was 3 lol!

Ive only seen him live three times during this period the last one being in 2002 as you say...

I don't think him making more appearances here in the UK would change anything as far as a bigger fan base, his music is very unique and you either do or don't like it, if you do, it wont matter that he isn't on tv loads because you will have already found him and if you don't then why do i care lol!

I don't mind that he isn't on tv over here... I'm not sure i really want to see Prince on TOTP or Sunday TV anyway! He is WAY above all of that cool

Part of the attraction (physically and musically) for me is that there is a certain mystery about him, i love that he isn't paraded on tv, i like the idea that he has his own life and I'm happy to steal a glimpse of him from american tv or pics when they are posted on here.

Cant wait to see him live again though... i hope he includes the UK in the next tour smile
