In the movie "Love 4 One Another" on the perfromance of "Rock & Roll IS Alive" Prince in his jackst goes to the back, get out a lighter. The channel blurs out the thing he does with his hands as he puts 2 mouth, smoke comes out. Prince runs and acts as if he's coughing and runs around the stage. Then sings again!

Even if hes not doing drugs, its probable he played right?

Im a HUGE prince fan and Id just like 2 no if u have this rare film? from 1995's VH1 special?

Prince actually hates cigarrettes.

Inhaling nicotine has actually caused him to lose his temper on a number of occasions and he has threatened to stop playing unless people in the audience stop smoking (anybody remember that aftershow in Lisbon?).

Typically for Prince, he DOES pretend to smoke onstage as part of his act (namely, during his performance on the Parade tour, and more recently on the cancelled VIBE tv show in '98)

I think a couple of Revolution band members were smokers. One of the Vanity 6/Apollonia 6 chicks was a smoker. I also heard that either Diamond or Pearl was a smoker and I've heard people say Rhonda Smith is a smoker.

Hard to believe, about 25% of the US population still smokes. Addiction explains the use of tobacco by older people who started prior to the widespread availability of information regarding the endless hazards of smoking, but the continued recruitment of new smokers by the tobacco industry is scandalous.

By the way, Prince has been an outspoken critic of tobacco use. He has posted several anti-tobacco news items on his website.

One more thing. Tobacco use is pleasurable for the user, but the shit really stinks. Smokers, as a group, exhibit classic addict traits, caring more about their fix than any harm, inconvenience, or disruption that it may cause for those around them.

My least favorite smoker behaviors:

• standing in front of doorways, forcing others to run a smoke-filled gauntlet to gain entry to a building
  
• throwing butts onto the street or sidewalk
  
• throwing butts out of moving cars
  
• smoking in a bar or restaurant - as if that shit goes well with my food and wine
  
• smoking near children
  
• smoking onscreen, in the movies

Have we had a tobacco thread on the org? Can't wait for the euro-smokers and libertarians to defend their "right" to smoke. Thank the courts that I live in California! The smokers need to keep their stench out of our bars and restaurants, businesses, and most public spaces.

I try to be a responsible smoker. I don't smoke IN my house. I use my ashtray in my car. I find a trash bin to throw my butts in. I know many smokers aren't like this. I also have seen many drivers with their anti-tobacco bumper stickers throwing their candybar wrappers out the window.

Even when I was a nonsmoker, I was openminded towards smokers. ALL OF US have some habit that may lead to health problems down the road. Be that eating at McDonald's, drinking tap water or,again, breathing the air in any industrial city.

Spend your energy on something more consrtuctive than trying to make the lives of smokers hell. There are much worse problems to combat.

As always, these are just my opinions...

I used to be a pack a day smoker, but I quit. Now that I'm a non-smoker I notice things that I never did before. Like the smell that clings to smokers's hair and clothes.

A friend of mine is a smoker and I'm only now noticing that he smells like an ashtray. That's probably the way I used to smell to non-smokers when I was a smoker.

I could school you with the health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption. Unlike alcohol, there is no evidence that ANY amount of smoking is beneficial to your health. No argument from me that excessive alcohol consumption is dangerous. And if I decide to have a glass of wine, and I am sitting next to you, at least you won't be harmed by it AND you won't walk away smelling like shit!



Thank you for being responsible, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen "other" drivers egregiously littering over the past 10 years. By contrast, I'd lose count in ONE WEEK the number of times I see smokers throwing butts out of car windows and onto the sidewalks. Give me a freakin' break!



Excellent point, however, being open-minded has nothing to do with my negativity toward smoking. If I have a bad habit that impacts YOUR quality of life and safety, I would expect you to have an opinion about it. Eating at McDonald's may be a public health concern, but at least it doesn't directly affect YOUR health when someone else goes there. By the way, I haven't been in many years.



I'm not trying to make your life hell. On the contrary, I'd like to make it better! I definitely would, however, like to make the lives of the cigarette manufacturers hell for the staggering toll of death and disability that they have wrought.

Just try to get your mind around 400,000 premature deaths in this country alone from smoking. This week, 19 million pounds of beef were recalled when a couple of dozen people got sick from eating it. Do you see how nutty it is that this product is still actually manufactured by companies and sold as a consumable product?

My best advice: Quit if you can. You'll feel better, live longer, and the world will be just a little nicer for it. Oh, and you'll finally be able to taste your food and wine!

Living in Cali as a non-smoker is so great, you forget how bad people have it in other places. I went to France recently, sat in the back of a VERY small cafe & was completely bombarded with smoke. EVERYONE in the place was smoking, there were no windows & I had a while to wait for my food to come - needless to say that wasn't the best dining experience I had there...
