Prince songs without hooks : an appreciation

Ok , as the debate continues over whether Fury is awesome or merely good and whether the lack of any lyrics in its chorus makes a difference to its success
as a song , I feel the need for a bit of a reminder to you all of some older
Prince songs we know and probably love which similarly have little or no chorus , and if they do have a chorus its either just a repeat of the song title (the main criticism of Te Amo Corazon's chorus ) or mainly instrumental like Fury ,
So to let the world know we can dig Prince with or without a chorus, what do you think of:

Darling Nikki
The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker
Bob George
Superfunkycalifragisexy
Rock Hard in a funky place
Endorphinmachine
Dinner With Delores

other inclusions are welcome also biggrin

I don't see why it's important to "certify" a song by Prince. Does this make it a bona fide hit? Even if it stunk and then conversly it would do well on the radio and we'd still be arguing it.

I do get where you are going with this thread...but I don't think people understand what a "hook" is. It's not a chorus...it's not really anything definable. It's the element of the song that grabs the listener.

For instance in Darling Nicki one could almost say that the Hook is the racy lyrics or the style of singing (which is very odd). Some songs like Bob George..the hook is the concept of the song.

yeah I agree , perhaps the wording of the thread is misleading looking at it lol , I mean Prince songs without conventional choruses as opposed to a Prince song without any hook whatsoever ie a rubbish song . Darling Nikki's
a cracking song but it has no chorus to sing to just a piece of nasty guitar , whereas I'd say that When Doves Cry has probably the longest chorus of any Prince song ever , but maybe its so long that others consider it to be a verse , I dunno smile
