Kanye West was "Too Shy" to approach Prince Rapper KANYE WEST may be one of the most confident stars in the charts, but even he grew starstruck after seeing PRINCE at the Brit Awards last night (15FEB06).
The DIAMONDS FROM SIERRA LEONE hitmaker and diminutive superstar Prince both performed at the London ceremony, while West picked up International Male Solo Artist. After watching Prince perform his megahit PURPLE RAIN from backstage, West admits he was too shy to approach the singer for an autograph. Truth being told... Prince is very much aware of the world which exist outside of his presence. He has shown through out the years that on some level he likes some 'hip-hop' in spite of his more idol worshipping, real music fans who beleive other wise.
This said Kanye in specific has a lot of the traits Prince would find admirable in the young man; he exudes self-confidence to the point of being cocky, he has done his thang 'his way' regardless of what others said or obstacles faced him and he is not afraid to step out of the envelope which is his genre. I beleive that Prince probably likes him at least as much as he would any other young artist.. Kanye is a fan of Prince, albeit a moderate / luke warm fan and probably isn't aware of the autograph horror stories Prince is notorious for. But I'll add this... I just regained some respect for him considering I had lost quite a bit listening to his constant self- worshipping statements he often makes. He has assured me that in spite of what he thinks of him self... he's still intimidated and knows his place in the face of true musical royalty. | |

Cool that Prince still has that much power to shut down one of the biggest mouths in pop music. Even if Kanye had've gone up to Prince, P would have told him what he tells everybody else, No autographs. Now that would have been a sight to see! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |
