Prince Mention on BET's 106th and Park.

BET has a daily countdown show, where they have fans vote for the order of the Top Ten, via phone call, or internet. There's a segment of the show, where in the middle of the countdown, they have an "Old School Joint of the Day" This is the only place you'll find Prince on the countdown. They often show When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, and Kiss, as 'Ol School Joints' The hosts Free and AJ, are somewhat Prince fans. I tuned in, in the middle of the conversation, but Free was stating how cool it would be if Prince came on the show. She mentioned how he was an inspiration for her, because of the extravagant/flashy boots she wear's. AJ teased her, and said, 'she's probably taller than Prince with the Boots off. He apologized and said Prince put on a wonderful performance (Assuming he's talking about ONA, in New York). Then begged/requested that Prince bless the show with his royal presence.

It's funny, he's mentioned quite a bit on this show. But I just can't picture him, being interviewed on this show, with a audience made up of screaming 16 year olds, who weren't even born when Prince had his 'Rain' over the 'popular music scene' Yet, I'd still be glad to see him, I'm positive, that most of his music now, will be way over a teenager's head. I know some 20 year olds that don't get it. But this will still be a nice attempt to get Prince some youth exposure.

P.S. Am I the only one totally geeked about what Cornel West had to say about Prince? big grin For those of you, who don't know who he is; he's a former Harvard Prof. Now employed by Princeton. He's the most Socially Conscious Mind of our time. And he praised the messages that Prince is attempting to get across in his music now a days. Maybe it's just me.

Prince was on MTV's TRL, so I'm sure he'd do 106 & Park

Yeah, that was real cool to hear Dr. West recognizing the example Prince is setting and the value in his words/work.
I feel ya on that.
I hope he does BET, MTV, etc. smile

Peace

I wonder if BET will ever ask Prince to appear on their awards show again. They asked him the first year the show was on, but I heard he turned them down.

if he comes to the shows, ppl. will ask him. but if he refuses, then he won't/don't deserved to be asked unless he is a big star.

That's cool cool...I haven't seen the count down for a while, but I'm gonna tune in. Free is one of my favorite people on T.V...I like the way she dresses.

About Cornel West, even the man knows Prince is a genius. biggrin

I had caught this earlier this evening and was going to pst it but Blue Prince beat me to it. To add to what was said, A.J. & Free were discussing there favorite Old School Videos that they've played in the past and Free said that When Doves Cry was her favorite and then they talked about Prince & how they'd been trying to get him on for the last 2 years & invited him come on the show.

Personally. I would love to see Prince come on 106th & Park and perform a couple of songs and talk a little bit. If he could do that for MTV and TRL why could he do it for BET? But it would be nice for a change to see him on TV again.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
