3121 (The Album) Te Amo Corazon (Adult contempery RnB)
Black Sweat (Slightly watered down funk) Fury (Rock anthem, guitar classic) The three tracks that have been confirmed are all opposites. 3121 is looking like Prince's most diverse album since "The Gold Experience". Te Amo is nice, BS is better, but Fury is an instant classic. The album is shaping out to be up there with "Purple Rain" and "Sign o the times"

Check it out: "Rave un2 the joy fantastic" The Greatest Romance ( Adult contemporary R&B) Undisputed (slightly watered down funk) Baby Knows & So far, so pleased (Guitar Pop rock in the vain of "I could never take the place of your man) See? The same claim of diversity could be made about damn near every Prince album. What happens is that fans are always expecting another "Purple Rain" or "SOTT" and they are always let down. I dug "Rave" a lot, but, then again, I wasn't looking for THE GREATEST PRINCE ALBUM OF ALL TIME. I am not saying we shouldn't hope for something cool, but what Prince is shooting for, might not be what you are hoping for. [Edited 2/6/06 12:59pm] "New Power slide...."

Not really. I think Prince latched onto that label he's given of being able to do anything and everything, and most his records since the early 90s have been a mixed bag of styles. I don't think it always works, Rave and Musicology for example - It like let's throw everything at the wall and see what sticks attitude. I prefer when he settles in for one type of thing - Xpectation and The Unertaker are good examples. [Edited 2/6/06 14:12pm]

All 3 of the new tracks are a solid cut or two above those. I'm not expecting SoTT, but I'm hoping for TGE (and I thought Musicology gave that a pretty good shot).

Having said that, I still adore the album, which had huge diversity, but it still contained an overall style which was lacking on Musicology (present on TGE, though).

I just noticed that the font for Prince used on the Glass Cutter single in the download store is the same as Te Amo and Black Sweat. So is it possible that will be included on 3121 as well?

all i know is i'm pumped for this album. I'm getting a good vibe. i hope his studio work stands up to his live performances. i'm referring back to SNL. shit, 'Fury' was hot as hell, he does that alot. hot as hell live, but the studio versions can be a let-down. I have high hopes though.
We've had a lot of false dawns over the years. I like pretty much everything so far from Prince 2006, i think 3121 could be real special. [Edited 2/6/06 14:19pm]

Typically subjects exhibit a downright delirious optimism and are prone to making extravagant predictions. Symptoms usually subside after exposure to reality or the week after the album leaves the top 70., whichever comes first. [Edited 2/6/06 15:03pm]

i have a feeling (or at least a hope) that 3121 will have its own kind of thing going on, and we won't be comparing it to SOTT or purple rain or anything else in a few months' time.

I'm actually hoping that it's be close to the Chocolate Invasion or Slaughterhouse, which are incredibly underrated.

I agree, The Gold Experience was pretty cohesive and that's perhaps why it is widely accepted as one of Prince's best. I expect 3121 to be more along the lines of the symbol album (which I liked on a whole) minus the excess. Time will tell.
