Yeah but you can have different levels of fandom. Even a causal fan isn't bad. We die hards don't own Prince. Anyone can love and listen to him even if they just listen to the Very best of Prince CD and love the hell out of it. I know where you are coming from. I used to feel very possessive about the artists I loved but it is really silly. Anyone who can appreciate Prince and see how great of an artist he is is OK in my book.
Besides you are forgeting there are many die hards who get back into Prince. And if it is the SNL preformance that remindes them of how great Prince is again than that doesn't mean they weren't crazy about him back in another time period. They are just simply reminded of why he inspired them so much and that is great. That is what happened to me.
