Universal seems to be pushing this release more than Sony pushed Musicology. The feeling I got with Musicology was that the label signed on just to be part of a succesful project, but wasn't really pushing it as a big release.

Universal seems to be more aggressive (especially if anything from the promotional wishlist happens). Of course this could all change at the drop of a hat if the label or Prince decides to move on.

Wow, we're on the same page. I always believed and I said here on the org before that Sony didn't do enough to promote Musicology. They picked the right singles, even though they should have released A Million Days, put they didn't push hard enough for them to be heard. I have a good feeling about Universal. I think they will FINALLY do Prince justice.

And they already got one part of the wishlist acomplished: SNL and look at what's happened as a result. Imagine if he does Oprah.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Wow.....

Dude, if Prince does Oprah, we will never hear the last of it and he will go to the stratosphere. Every reason in the world why he HAS to do that show if no other to promote 3121.

I remember being really young when MJ did Oprah for "Dangerous" and it really really really really UPPED the sales of "Dangerous." Maybe Prince will do Oprah when sales and promo for "3121" start to die down, to generate more buzz for it. Instead of just putting all the big bang appearances out front. You know??? Just a thought.. cool

Prince did "Oprah" for "Emancipation". Did that jettison sales? Hard to tell.

That put him in front of a lot of people. When that happened, people were talking about it, him and the new album.

I don't SOny felt there was a need. P had found that loophole and they probably figured P would promote (heck almost distribute it) it himself...which he did.

He normally blows the wad all at one time. Most likely he will blitz it all out and use the music and videos to keep the momentum going. By the time 3121 really dies off, he'll be on to the next thing. The tour should keep sales going for a while.

Yeah but P's loophole didn't really help Sony all that much, right? From what we've heard, they didn't get a cut of the concert CD's.

Prince generated plenty of buzz to see him in concert, but it didn't seem like Sony tried that hard to get him on to the radio, which could have generated more traditional sales that would've benefitted them.

once the tour got going, certainly
Prince made the cover of dozens of magazines
everyone calling it a comeback
but beforehand, there wasn't any more buzz than there is now for 3121
which is still quite a lot
i look forward to Prince having some real hit singles this time around
not because it matters
but because they're so good everyone will be forced to take notice

Dang right the music sounds good thus far, if "Fury" isn't a big hit then I don't know what will be cool
