I agree that we'll just have to wait and see who is in the band by the time the show hits the road. Given Prince's past history, it could certainly change several times over by the time spring/summer rolls around.
As to Blackwell, I do hope he's getting some time to spend with his family and get centered. I also remember reading the interview Prince gave to Modern Drummer magazine during the Musicology tour. He said that he felt really blessed to have the chance to work with John, but that he felt it was getting to the point where he had taught him everything he knows and John would need to be cut loose to fly on his own. From a career perspective, it wouldn't be in John's best interest to stay with Prince forever and he's built quite a reputation in his own right. If he struck out in a different direction, I'd miss his flavor with Prince, but I'd be happy that he's getting the chance to stretch himself and continue to grow. I've gone to find myself. ay yay yay. i know bobby z. is a very competent all-around musician and producer, but as a drummer i think the only thing he has going for him is nostalgia points for being in the revolution. i think if they all got back together for a reunion show, the actual outcome would be a lot less spectacular than what a lot of people are imagining it would be like. | |
