I am by no means comparing Tamar here, but is that what you say when you hear Chaka or any other queen singing? I thought she just sang the song. She didn't need to resort to theatrics like Jessica Simpson who needs to jump in order to get the notes to come out. She seemed very natural and fluid. I love to hear a sista sing so maybe we just like different types of voices 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I'm talking about not trying to squeeze your entire repetoire into every single phrase. It's not about the presence of soul and gospel traditions of inflections, embellishments and runs, but rather about knowing how and when to best apply them. It just comes down to a lack of finesse and experience... she needs to be told to calm the fuck down and get the song right first of all, instead of trying to showcase her vocal dexterity at each and every opportunity. That's what I meant by "oversang". It sounds amateurish to my ears, and I daresay there is a great number semiprofessional session vocalists out there who could give a much better delivery, albeit without her looks. Hence the comparisons with Prince's other ill-fated female protoges! The actual timbre of her voice is okay for the most part, when she was in tune. Like I say, she has volume but not really the skill and experience to make best use of it. Perhaps I'm being unkind - I've only got that one song to go by. But I didn't like the song, I didn't like her performance, and I'm still not sure why I should care who Tamar is So again, a difference of opinion. [Edited 2/6/06 18:30pm]

I loved the performances especially the cute little part at the end "superstar"...that was really cute. Glad to see him w/everyone at the end...very sociable. Tamar?!?!?!?!?! I liked the twins, very pretty and as someone else here stated...very "proud Mary". But the whole girl group thing was very distracting as were her vocals...She is no Rosie Gaines...she was a singer!

I'm a complete idiot and kicking myself for missing SNL. I was looking forward to it and thinking about it all week. I can't believe I forgot to watch/tape it. Does anyone know when it will be repeated or how I can view the SNL episode?
thanks, David | |

I doubt either guy really cares...especially Prince. "OMG, did you see how Prince stood next to Steve Martin who's in a movie with Beyonce who was once in a band with Tamar who is now singing with Prince... They must be uncomfortable next to each other.... " The example u gave went to the extreme, so it undercut your validity. No, Alec wasn't involved with Kim during filming, BUT they did briefly get back together AFTER P and Kim broke up. There's a history there. Not saying how deep it is, of course. But that shit has happened to me. I can go to a party, see an ex- girlfriend of mine and then run into a cat that she dated after me. We're all there together. No, it's nothing serious, but it is a little weird. It's an unnatural feeling. And that's tucked away somewhere at a party at someone's crib. Not on national television. Maybe I spotted it on SNL cuz I've been in that position. A big part of my post when I mentioned it was me just having fun. But since so many folks on here don't have an inch of a sense of humour, and so damn over-protective when it comes to P, then u get shit like this. Dang! Umm, didn't those two bitches (P & Alec) sit side by side on Leno the last time P was on there? & they've probably run into each other @ other functions we weren't witness to. It's old fucking news folks - lets get over it as I'm sure they both have...

Only Prince fans are clueless enough to point out non-issues like P, Kim B. and Alec B... I bet most of those same fans think when Prince and Dez Dickerson would meet they would argue about Prince's diss towards him in "Xtra Loveable"... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

I'm not crazy 'bout Tamar after several listens to BLB, but if that's the muse that helps make Prince kick butt like he did on Fury live, well Tamar is fine with me!

Former host of Video Soul on BET, for like 10 years or more. Currently he has the top rated DC drive time radio show in the Washington, DC area black radio market. He's been in the radio business more than 30 years. . [Edited 2/6/06 16:15pm] Well, he is obviously dumb as fuck because there is no way in hell that you can dog this performance on national radio. What did he say anyway? [Edited 2/7/06 3:47am]
