I think some of you all might be reading a LITTLE too much into things re: Alec Baldwin & Prince... Was Kim even involved with Alec during Batman? I doubt either guy really cares...especially Prince.

Co-sign. I didn't catch any "weirdness.". Just the funny expressions and faces he made while they were waiting for their cue. Classic Prince humour. smile And wasn't the whole Kim B thing just a rumour anyway?

I disagree. I watched all these performances (in video) and I think Fury is almost in the same level of Rock and Holl Hall of Fame (my personal fave) performance. Grammy´s was visually nice, but not musically. NAACP had some great moments, specially in the end (when he plays bass and when he plays Santana medley with Sheila).

It's funny, you say you disagree, but I think in a way we are saying the same thing. The RRHOF RULED, and I don't even know that song! (told you I don't like rock). And the Santanna thing he busted out at the end of NAACP with Sheila was AMAZING! Personally, I just didn't think Fury was at the same level. But that's just me.

Even though I'm not a rock fan, I thought the Red Headed Stepchild thing was more exciting Thursday night. Did anyone ever figure out if that's a new Tamar song or Lenny K?

In that case, officially Prince has only been romantically linked to two women, Mayte and Mani. All the others are just rumour. wink

I promised myself that I wouldn't listen to the new songs too much before the album, to keep some of the excitement, but I'm currently watching this for probably the 10th time - it's just too good... I can never get enough of his guitar playing... Reminds me of the style at the end of the Question Of U / The One / Fallin' medley available on NPGMC (same guitar and effects, I think).

This is the most raw performance I've seen from him on TV since Endorphinmachine.

And the more I listen to the words, the more I wonder if it really is about breaking up with Mani. I'd hope they're still together, though - it's unfortunate that P writes a lot of his best music when breaking up with women and/or record companies...

Prince dated Kim a couple of years before Baldwin hooked up with her.

It really ain't that serious. I do recall a few articles waaay back when saying that Prince wasn't on Baldwin's favorite person's list. Something about Prince sending Kim flowers or something on her birthday after she and Alec were an item. That could make things a little awkward even now.

Kim would have been a rare exception, Prince has almost exclusively gone after brunettes.

Left the building with a huge smile on my face even though I was tired as fuck from the hectic days following him around...
Loved the performance of "Fury" but I thought the performce of "Beautiful, Loved And Blessed" was rather lacking compared to when they played it at the gigs, but no harm done...
"Fury" is probably the best thing he's recorded since 1995 a great song with some energy that had been lacking since then, but judging from the dud ("Te Amo Corazon") and the huge step backwards into plasticville for the dumbed down crowds ("Black Sweat", funny video though...) "3121" will probably be another incoherent mish mash a la "Musicology"...
If only he could release an album with just energetic music like "Fury"...

I love the end (Fury)where he puts the guitar on reverb (or whatever you want to call that) and walks off. I am digging all 3 songs so far.Bring on the album.

The effect is called gapper/snipper, i think. Basically, it just turns the signal of the guitar on and off quickly.

Other FXP used during Fury are a distortion (ofcourse), some wah and a flanger (the phasey sound near the end of the tune).

- Yes, I think this album wont be as different from Musicology in terms of being a pop salad.
I showed ´Fury´ to a friend...he didn´t like the song much, as a composition...maybe he was disappointed because he doesn´t know Prince´s music well, and always heard me calling him an innovator, genius, etc. He thought the music was nothing special (too retro), but he enjoyed Prince´s performance, specially on guitar.
There is no denying that it was very energetic. Another thing I like about it is that it´s flawless. It´s not embarassing, the lyrics are good, the vocals are good...it´s not risky as Cinnamon Girl (a track I like, but has some embarassing vocals and keys). ´Fury´ can be appreciated by everyone.

Hey, nice to know that you dig 'Fury' because you usually tell it rather directly when you don't like Prince's stuff.
Personally, I love 'Black Sweat' as well. Don't you like those keys (not the synth) during the chorus just a bit? I find it very refreshing to hear him singing with an attitude again, also. I think the vocals are hot.

Both songs were great but the first one was amazing. I don't recall being that excited about Prince since the opening of the Musicology tour, which I guess wasn't that long ago. It's too bad that SNL is so lame nowadays, otherwise more people would have probably seen Prince.

Only if they went on long enough, it's the only nice part in the song...

He has been singing like that on all those plastic throwaway nonsense songs from his "High" period...
And the song reminds me of "The Work pt. 1" (he could easily name it "The Work pt. 2") not a good thing...

Prince clearly has a predilection for brunettes and his most notorious and majorly publicized 'affairs' have been with brunette women, but imo it's a tad shortsighted to proclaim Kim as such a rare exception and that he's has almost exclusively gone after brunettes. What about Jackie Swanson? What about that Ophelie Winter person from France? What about the (blonde) nobodies that used to hang around the Paisley Park parties that Prince 'went after' (or whatever term you want to use).

The fact is that Prince has dated lots of women -- and not just famous ones, or ones he brought into the public eye. He also had relationships back before he became famous. He's dated more blonde women than people realize. Brunettes are still the greater percentage, sure, but blonde Kim B. wasn't such a rare exception.

The example u gave went to the extreme, so it undercut your validity. No, Alec wasn't involved with Kim during filming, BUT they did briefly get back together AFTER P and Kim broke up. There's a history there. Not saying how deep it is, of course. But that shit has happened to me. I can go to a party, see an ex- girlfriend of mine and then run into a cat that she dated after me. We're all there together. No, it's nothing serious, but it is a little weird. It's an unnatural feeling. And that's tucked away somewhere at a party at someone's crib. Not on national television. Maybe I spotted it on SNL cuz I've been in that position. A big part of my post when I mentioned it was me just having fun. But since so many folks on here don't have an inch of a sense of humour, and so damn over-protective when it comes to P, then u get shit like this. Dang!

I intentionally made my example extreme to illustrate the lengths some people go to to try to make something out of nothing. (Not saying you are one of those people--but you have to admit there are some people here and on HQ that have VERY creative imaginations when it comes to Prince.)

It's all good--I guess I have just been getting a bit irritated with all the gossip threads and people jumping to conslusions about who Fury is about, and is that his new band, etc...both here & on HQ. I don't consider myself overprotective when it comes to Prince--he is human just like any of us and has done he fair share of WTF things (but that's another thread). And normally, I think I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'll just chalk it up as me having a bad org day. shrug
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

FURY ROCKS!!!!!

sad
Maybe I watched a different show than Ya'll did.. but I was
NOT impressed.. I have been following Prince almost every since he came out
back in 79... and I have NEVER really heard his voice sound the way
it did.. especially during Fury..
It just had a "different" sound to it. Maybe he was a bit tired from
all those shows on Thursday and Friday.. but he seemed rather Bored to me!
He looked GREAT.. that I will give you.. but seeing those women on stage
just made me miss the Sexy Mayte even more... They distracted from
the performance.. I THOUGHT
After The first Single.. I was totally excited for the new CD to come
out.. but after hearing "Fury" and "Black Sweat" I am alittle less
thrilled.
I am taking it that the last song he did on SNL will be on the girls
new CD???
I was SO pumped for a KICK ASS Prince performance.. but OH WELL.
This kinda reminds me of when he was with Larry G. all the time....
You just were not happy about someone else getting some lime lite.
Just MY opinion.. and I am SURE that most of you will disagree.. but just
wanted to have MY say
Peace.. wink

I was surprised to hear Donnie Simpson say the exact same thing. He just dogged the "Fury" performance on the radio. Then again Donnie likes Mary J. Blige's off key singing performances. Come to think of it he doesn't like anything remotely pop music anymore it seems. neutral

SNL' SCORES ITS HIGHEST OVERNIGHTS IN 16 MONTHS
Released by NBC

WITH HOST STEVE MARTIN AND MUSICAL GUEST PRINCE, 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' GRABS ITS HIGHEST LOCAL-MARKET AVERAGE SINCE OCTOBER 2004

BURBANK, Calif. - Feb. 5, 2006 - Last night's edition of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by Steve Martin and featuring musical guest Prince, delivered the highest "SNL" average rating in 16 months in the local markets metered by Nielsen Media Research.

The Feb. 4 edition of "Saturday Night Live" averaged a 7.0 household rating, 16 share in the metered markets, the highest local-market score for "SNL" since the opening edition of the 2004-05 season on Oct. 2, 2004. Note that averages currently include 53 markets, with Seattle, New Orleans, and Greenville-Spartanburg currently excluded from Saturday's overnight ratings.

Last night's telecast marked Martin's record 14th appearance hosting "Saturday Night Live." For Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and musical superstar Prince, this was his first "SNL" performance since 1981.

National ratings and demographic results for last night's "Saturday Night Live" are due from Nielsen Thursday, Feb. 9

I loved Fury to bits. I share the concerns that the album version might not be able live up to the SNL performance smile But I really enjoyed the song - looking forward to the album a bit more now!

Also the sketch "The Prince Show" was actually surprisingly accurate, if rather silly smile

The second song, the one with Tamar (whoever the fuck that is)... ummm... it makes my ears sad! Horrible song. She's quite pretty and has some volume, but Prince has worked with far better vocalists. She sounded amateurish and really over-sung everything, in my humble opinion. I really thought that by 2006 Prince would have given up on trying to break attractive but under-talented young female singers, but some things never change eh!
