i dunno...it's not catching me. it sounds like 90s r+b. or something from Emancipation. it may sound a little like old Prince but the beat is so Neptunes/Kelis/Dr Dre/L.A. sounding.

on a second listen, i think Te Amo Corazon is much much better. i keep hoping that the real version of Black Sweat is going to be released like Stevie Wonder's So What The Fuss?. the version that was leaked didn't have the funk breakdown at the end like the album version does.

hopefully Black Sweat is like that.

god people don't you realize that the Neptunes/Kelis are the Prince sound!!! Its his!!!

The more I listen to it the more I love it. It really grows and that is a good sign. biggrin

I find that the chorus is stuck in my head. I was riding my bike this morning and all I could hear in my head was "Working, working up a black sweat"

spit

Yeah....I'm beginning to get into this one major time. razz

This is much better than I expected!!
And it seems;the more we discuss his music, the better the videos become!
From Musicology untill BS he has made his best vid's since the Diamonds&Pearls era(NOT talking about the music,I know there are a lot of D&P haters here lol )

2 bad about that synth-sound,it doesn't bother me but some people I know told me it's a shame he putt that sound in such a great song!!
Maybe it's something they got 2 get used 2.
I also didn't like Kiss when it came out, this was sooo different!! we wanted 2 hear some synths,guitars,...
But after a few weeks it became a fav and now it's a classic!!

With BS and Te Amo(I stil think it's a good song) 3121 can't go wrong.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that. Black Sweat does not sound anything like the sappy crap on Emancipation. I fuckin' hate that album--it's 3 discs of steaming pooptoast No way does Black Sweat sound like anything from that. And if the rest of 3121 sounds like Emancipation, I'm going to be mad

twocents

I totally agree. It's the drums. Prince is just much better a programmer than Kirky J, whose beats just had no life to them for some reason.

Wow! clapping

So I'm watching the video on the internet, and I must say, Prince has gone back to the good old stripped-down FUNK that made him such an innovator in the 80's. It's funky as hell, no doubt. And the video is pretty cool too.

Black Sweat, and Te Amo Corazon have been referred to as "A.V.", at the risk of looking like a fool I must ask, what does that stand for?

Be honest with yourselves: Listen to something like Splash, or Wonderful Ass or a whole host of others, and say to yourself, does Black Sweat even compare? Listen to the freedom in those old vocals, the way the melody seems to be from some other world. This is the Prince I love. Some motherfucker who could make Andre3000 look like a dick, now Andre is the genius, Prince is merely so, so.

Except for fury, which I love, but it is still not any where near the great ones.

IMHO Splash is one of the most god-awful pieces of sickly trash Prince has ever done. It shows you how people have differnt tastes I guess. shrug

Yet it's still a Pharrell/Black Eyed Peas rip-off...lol lol

Well, I'm not the kinda fam that thinks that Prince invented everything in music, but I think it's unfair 2 say that BS is a Pharrel-kind sound...I think it's the other way around...Pharrel is highly influenced by Prince...

I don't think it matters if it's Pharell-or-whoever-sounding or if it's the other way around. His vocals seperate this from the rest.

A.V.= audio visual (i.e. the video)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
