I gotsta bump this shit in my ride immediately! The retail single isn't supposed to be out until March 7, but I also heard Feb 21st so I'm not really sure. It's still not on iTunes either.

isn't it odd that Prince fans seem to like Black Sweat better, but Beautiful, Loved and Blessed is actually getting more airplay. It's the #1 "taking off" on urban AC
http://www.mmr247.com/mmr...p?chart=U2 and #5 on the jump list http://www.mmr247.com/mmr...p?chart=U2 a +123 on 20 stations in the past week

well, i think BL&B is getting more spins on Urban AC right now than Black Sweat is on all of the other formats combined.

Understood, but those stations tend to fly under the radar enough that they can add new songs more easily than the larger stations. Black Sweat is on pace with what Madonna's new song was doing a week earlier and has a legit shot at being a very big multi-format hit. But, I'm not missing your point, in fact, BL&B is #444 on the Urban hit chart and climbing, as well. Still, Black Sweat is being added to several video channels this week, as well as most likely iTunes and with a retail cd and 12" on the way, it's the "hit" that Prince hasn't delivered in over a decade. By the way, Call My Name was the #5 song on Urban AC for all of 2004 and that song still wasn't considered a "hit".

Great points , Maz, Marcel and Alan. Its looking pretty good . like Alan stated a few posts back On the Taking off Charts...here's Mondays report on 3 formats. Radio & Records 2/13/06: Top 40 / Rhythmic: Black Sweat - # 1 "Taking Off" http://www.mmr247.com/mmr...p?chart=Y0 Urban Mainstream : Black Sweat # 4 Taking Off http://www.mmr247.com/mmr...p?chart=U1 Urban Adult Contemporary : Beautiful , Loved & Blessed # 1 Taking Off http://www.mmr247.com/mmr...p?chart=U2 Yeah, Maz ...Musicology the single got only a handfull of spins on Urban Mainstream and Top 40 Stations it did go to #7 on the Urban AC chart. But the radio attention thus far for the 2 singles on 3121 is far out pacing Musicology. [Edited 2/13/06 6:45am]

strange thing though, cuz I heard Call My Name twice last week on urban radio. I was completely surprised! They've been hating on P for a few years now, and then *this* outta the blue... I'm hoping they catch on to BS.... "Pedro offers you his protection."

yea, black sweat is starting to take off - and those markets are bigger. It still would be nice to see it getting added as quickly relative to market size as BL&B is on Urban AC.

You know, as I was in the elevator at work this morning, I was looking at the screens that flash news headlines....
They actually mentioned Prince and the purple ticket marketing scheme in 3121. It was very interesting to see that. I am MrVictor....

This is very true. You think Mariah's success was all due to her appearances? Nope. Her fan club was all over it. They offer prizes and other things for getting it to number one on TRL and added at radio stations. Getting an email from them every day was annoying but boy did it work. Look at this article from Hits daily:
SINGING A DIFFERENT ITUNES: Is the record industry reassessing its relationship with iTunes regarding pre-album-release of singles? Amid widespread fears that sales of individual tracks are cannibalizing album purchases, at least two labels are taking action. Def Jam/IDJ will not make the current Ne-Yo smash, “So Sick,” available on iTunes until after the album is released on Feb. 28. Some industry observers are wondering, for example, how much bigger the first week on Jive/ZLG artist Chris Brown’s debut album might have been without the enormous amount of downloads sold on the radio smash, “Run It.” (2/13p)

Video Spins 4 02/14/06
Black Sweat VH1 spins: 1 Te Amo Corazon VH1 Spins: 1 Black Sweat MTV Spins: 4 MTV played Black Sweat 4 times out of their 6 hour video block. Total since video debuted on 2/13/06: Black Sweat VH1 Spins: 2 Te Amo Corazon VH1 Spins: 2 Black Sweat MTV Spins: 7* (*Cinnamon Girl only received 10 spins in total on MTV in 1 month of play. Black Sweat looks like it will eclipse that total 2morrow in only 3 days of play!) This is only counting MTV & VH1, the main channels, not MTV Hits or VH1 Soul, just the ones with the most subscribers/viewers, i.e. more impact.
