At the no. 1 spot is CHAOS AND DISORDER ( The title says it all, need I say more)

2. RAVE UNTO THE JOY FANTASTIC (Sounds
like it was cut in the 80's and the lp title was horrible)

3. EMANCIPATION ( What was he thinking?)

Ya know, I'm not surprised that Chaos and Disorder came up a lot from everyone, but once again I have to put my foot down about NewPower Soul--this is great album, on par with Come, a real classic in terms of it's unique flavor...it will be appreciated one day when it's done aging, I think.

Some of his work emphasise horns over guitar...this is no reason complain about the lack of guitar...would you like every album to be a guitar album? What would be the point??? Prince is diverse and should be appreciated accordingly, no?

Anyhoo...my least favorite has got to be Batman, though it's not entirely without merit. Maybe it's because it lived in LoveSexy's shadow.

I can't believe some of the albums that are being mentioned. The Gold Experience and Diamonds and Pearls?? Some of you in my opinion are; crazy, deaf, auditorally impaired, tasteless, or have no general music sense.

If we're talking about whole albums then that means the whole thing sux. I can't think of ONE Prince album, that's so terrible I can't listen to it. Sorry...

Prince's garbage, can beat out any Top Ten Artists' song today. That's the truth, come on; people take Prince's OK songs and turn them into hits! That goes to show you, just how much marketing, popularity, and commercialism play in being 'BillBoard Successful'

I think most of us rather we're die-hard fan(m)s or not, stopped liking Prince when the rest of the world did. In other words, whenever the media pulled the plug on him, or he pulled the plug on the 'media, that's when he lost the bulk of his fans.

I would want fans to love me for me, and my music, not because I'm what's popular.

I wouldn't say that Prince had any bad albums. It's just that they didn't sell.for whatever reason. He never puts out bad music. He is musically perfect.

For You - not really all that inspiring and i don;t play it very often at all.

Graffiti Bridge - (apart from NPG, Thieves, Question of U)

Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic - too much shit on it, and why was Prettyman a hidden track??? Should have released that as a single

Black Album ain't all that hot either.

Parade - take away Kiss, Girls & Boys and Sometimes it Snows (all brilliant) and the rest is pretty poor

Anxiety

I think it says something about Prince's artistry that there's no one album that anyone can 100% agree with on here in regards to a "worst" album (with the possible exception of NPS, but most of us forgive him for that little travesty).

I'm a big fan of Chaos and Disorder. It was a guitar album that I had been starving for when it was released, and it was just idiosynchratic enough to be interesting to me. It's far from his best, but I enjoy listening to it from beginning to end - I rarely hit the Skip button.

I've never been able to get into "For You", from the first listen. "Soft and Wet" is cool, as is "For You", but the rest of the album is dullsville in my opinion. In fact, it's the only Prince album I don't own on CD - just on vinyl. Why bother? I don't like it.

I like Come. I didn't at first, but it grew on me with the quickness one summer, and ever since, I've been a fan of the album. It has a very distinct feel which is dark and introspective. There are some keys on that album, to be sure.

RAVE is miserable. It sounded like an attempt to be accessible by a man who doesn't need to think about such considerations. This is the sound of Prince holding himself back. I DO like the title track and "Strange But True", however.

Every album has its little treasure, even NPS.

My bottom three, then?

1. NPS
2. Rainbow Children (remove the narration and we can talk, okay?)
3. For You

(Subject to change.)

1.Prince (I just hate the production on this album, there are some good songs, but there are some pretty bad ones too)
2.1999 (not a huge synth-funk fan, the jams aren't interesting enough to be so damn long)
3.Batman (just so weak after the masterpieces that were Sign, Black Album, and Lovesexy)

rolleyes R u guys trippin:?: I can't think off 3 songs, let alone 3 albums:!: All i can say is every song is a story, and every album is a book. Every album is different and unique in it's own way. There is a song or an album, for each and every state of mind, i may be in. This is inculding B sides, and songs he has written 4 others. But everyone has a right 2 there likes and dislikes, i can't say that is wrong at all. But i have that right 2, and i am saying i can't think of 1 song or album of P's, that i dont like in some way. A few observations...

***I'm surprised that 'Diamonds and Pearls' is on so many of your lists. That album is an unabashed "commercial" album, but it does contains some real gems ("Strollin","Cream","Gett Off " and "Insatiable" are some of Prince's strongest songs of the 90s,imo).

***Is there anyone here who actually likes 'NPS'? It seems that everytime we do these types of lists, that album is always mentioned as one of his worst.I think those songs are the types of jams that Prince could do in his sleep.

***A few of you have the attittude of "How dare you guys dislike a Prince album"...lol...let's be honest now. When you put out as much music as Prince does,it can't ALL be good!

I like NPS. I agree that maybe Prince didn't put a whole lot of effort into it (except maybe The One). But I still think it's a fun little album. Not a very good example of good production though!

1) New Power Soul
2) Graffiti Bridge
3) Rave
IMO, both NPS and Rave have the same problem: the production. Both were done in the ´dark years´ (1996-2000) where Prince didnt seem to be excited about making music, and was too worried about being a hitmaker.
Graffiti Bridge has some great songs, including the unforgettables ´We can funk´, ´Thieves´, ´Joy in repetition´ and ´Question of U´...but it has too much ´The time´ for my taste and some embarassing songs like ´Tick Tick bang´ and ´Graffiti Bridge´...
I agree that ´Diamonds and Pearls´ had some very weak tracks, and it had Tony (argh) and the infamous ´trend following´ with lots of hip hop. But for me this album is special because it introduced The New Power Generation, my fave Prince band

COOL aspects of "Diamonds and Pearls":The hair-do,the yellow cloud guitar, Rosie Gaines, "Violet the Organ Grinder" and the MTV assless "Gett Off" performance. Otherwise, I do not like it.

COOL aspects of "Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic":Using the Linn drum machine one more time, finally hearing the studio track of "Rave", even though it sucked compared to the live guitar thrashing version ripping up on the "Small Club" boot, and the Rave sheep moment of conscienceness.Otherwise, I do not like it.

COOL aspects of "Chaos and Disorder": err...none! An intended insult to Warners but a bigger insult of having people dish out $$$ for it while stuff like "Roadhouse Garden" sits gathering dust.

Best Prince:

1) Rainbow Childern: the Prince sound in full flourish with a LIVE band, superb songwriting, thoughtful lyrics, awsome cover art, and very eccentric.

2) Parade: fun, creative, uniquely Prince, the Revolution in the zone, and brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Name another 80's artist who had vision and understanding of music nad daring and the diversity to put anything like this out. Madonna? Springsteen? Jacko? HA! Parade is GENIUS!

3) Purple Rain. Classic. All-timer. nuff said.

$$$

Anyone else agree that "Sign o' the Times, though brilliant is starting to sound DATED?
$$$

COME is actually underrated but Prince intentionally sabotaged it by letting it end so weakly, with Solo, Letitgo, and Orgasm. Three slammin' tracks would have kicked this weirdly downer of a cd all yhe way to Kamino, the planet Obi-Wan will tell yo' mama to clone yo' salty ass!

EMANCIPATION is getting WEIRDER as it ages. It is creepy for it's legacy representing a failed marriage and deceased child, alternately shmaltzy sentiment and weird 90's attempts at groove and electronic production and attitude. It's Prince, but not, dig?

kirk out.

My least favorite Prince albums were:

1. 1999 (yes, this album. I just could not follow this album. Way too synthesizerish)

2. Graffiti Bridge

3. Batman(Batdance) soundtrack (The best songs are the last two- Scandalous which I love, and Batdance)

My favorite albums (this is hard, but here it is):

1. 3 Chains of Gold (symbol album; God that song is amazing)

2. Gold album

3. Parade album

4. I'm also feeling the Rainbow Children

I'm out!

Prince's Worst:
1. Gold Experience
INCREDIBLY lame and stupid songs - Pussy Control, We March, Gold, Now, TMBGITW... anyone who likes this shit is a complete DIP!
2. Emancipation
"Git Yo Groove On" - fucking Pepsi-commercial sellout garbage. The whole album is chock full of silly, pretentious, immature, over-produced MASTERBATION!
3. Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic
Apart from the title tune and "Pretty Man" this crap sucks beyond all comprehension. Some of the stupidest, trite MOR drivel anyone's ever put out... and that includes even John Tesh!
4. Diamonds & Pearls
Music for brain-dead aging yuppie burnouts who never actually understood Prince in the 80's but have the money to blow on a stupid, mass-marketed, throw-away, short-attention-span circus such as this so they can feel like they're still "with it." Prince and the "New Power Generation!" Yeah man!!! "Caaareeeaaam!"
5. O{+>
A desperate appeal to the early 90s MTV kids. Some of Prince's LAMEST fans today got on board at this point. This shit is so overdone, self-indulgent, childish and pointless its beneath any further comment.
6. Chaos & Disorder
"Do me double G..." barf

My least favorites would have to be:

1. NPS
2. For You
3. Prince
4. Come
5. Rave Un2...

They either bored me or didn't challenge me enough to get a kick out it. But when the mood hits me, I'll pop one of them in the walkman.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
