We March is the worst song only topped by Now whcih he tries to compare to Irresistable Bitch and Sexy Mf. Some cuts were OK but these were terrible!

1. NPS : Embarrassingly bad. I'd never play that one for my friends.
2. Diamonds and Pearls: Jughead especially ruins this disc for me. **shudder** That whole gangsta-glam thing is just silly. 'Cept for the gun mic.
3. Rave Un2 the Joy: Almost entirely forgettable. What is it about Beautiful Strange that everyone loves? Bleh.

For You: Prince's first album, and aside from Soft and Wet, did not contain any "signature" songs or any real "character" yet. This album is a sacrificial lamb in Prince's catalog . . . just served to get his name out there.

Chaos & Disorder: Basically comprised of "throw-away" songs, this was released simply out of contractual obligation. I doubt most of these songs would've seen the light of day otherwise. There are[.i] a few very good tracks on there, but we are talking about entire albums.

New Power Soul: I don't know if you can count this one, since technically it is a NPG album, but realistically it [i]is
a Prince album . . he even promoted the shit out of it on TV. The songs just all sound too "dull" and the lyrical content is just silly. I understand the concept was to capture the "live" feel of a show, but at the time it was NOT what Prince needed to release. There are a couple of decent tracks on this one, but not enough.

If NPS is disqualified, then I only have one other one that might even come close to this list, and that would be Come. But I love that album, so it's not on my list!! smile

***'ATWIAD'---I know most of y'all would say I'm crazy...lol...but this album just didn't do much for me.It has a few cool songs ("Raspberry Beret","Paisley Park") but it's not an album that I like to revisit.

***'Come'---Prince was battling with Warners when this album came out,and I think he purposely gave them a mediocre album just to fulfill his contract. This was a weak follow-up to the excellent 'Love Symbol' CD.

***'Chaos and Disorder'---I haven't really played this album since 1996! There was nothing really exciting here."Dinner With Delores" is charming, but this is another throwaway album just to fulfill his contractual obligation.

My DC Direct wishlist: 1) Bane, 2) Prof Zoom, 3) Superman Blue, 4) Kilowag, 5) Parasite

'For You' is a nice, soulful album. But,I think most Prince fans aren't too impressed with it.It's not nearly as experimental and diverse as the Prince albums that soon followed. But I like it.The ballads are really heartfelt and well-produced."So Blue" and "Crazy You" drive me crazy!

Prince's worst 3 would be

Batman...he succeeded in once again going a whole new direction, like he's done with most all his albums, but that time it wasn't within his heart, it was in...Batman's heart I guess, which cuts the edge off this album, which is funky, The Future and Batdance, the Partyman slammin' remix, but there was an element of Prince reaching outside for the first time that weakened this project.

Graffiti Bridge...Prince was a little too cryptic in this era. Of course, he's always got a mystic that allows for all sorts of interpretation. But I preferred the more direct atmosheric cryptics of Lovesexy. Lovesexy was so raw and just slammin beats and say-whatever-your-heart. Prince seemed after Batman to slip back into a Lovesexy type mode with hearts and peace signs again, but he sure clammed up and became this shy, too introverted type of character. Of course Tick Tick and other songs are OUT there, but the Lovesexy mode was more balanced.

Symbol album...I felt disappointed with so many albums from the early 90's included so many segues and speeches and dramas between songs...I just wanted to get on the dance floor. I hate to say it, but segues are just an excuse for not having a good song. Actually, I would like to know if segues have ever been interesting. Perhaps a Public Enemy album? What else?

Anyway, Prince's albums started getting too long, and ever since I heard the "rumour"? that he pulled the Black Album because he felt he could die any moment and that would not be his choice of a farewell album to this world...I've always felt Prince grandiosed everything since. That's why he cranks out so much music.

Wow! Lots of different opinions. Really.
What im wondering, is that many of you dont seem to like Raveuntothejoyfantastic , which is one of my favourite last decade prince albums. Someone was talking something about this consisting of remixes??? I didnt get that, remixes of what???

Anyway, my least favourites are easy to name:

- New power soul - just dull. i was really dissappointed with this one, maybe thats why RavUn2.. felt sooo good.

- Graffiti Bridge - thieves in temple is one of my all-tmie favourites, but theres not much else good on this album.

- Emancipation CD#3 - without this last cd Emancipation would be a great double album. He just shouldnt be doing rap.

Also dont like much Batman or Gold or Lovesymbol.

Prince's Albums {ALL} have great trax on them...there may be an album or two or three that I don't listen too as often... and those would be:

1.Around The World In A Day
2.Grafitti Bridge
3.Chaos and Disorder

Not saying their garbage or his worst thou!
I just rather not listen to them as much as his better work, which would be the ones not listed...and I'm a DJ also, so these albums I never refer to for hot dance trax, except for maybe "Rasberry Beret,Pop Life, NewPowerGeneration, or I Like it there!
But these trax have alternate versions; that are not included on the original LP!

Of the albums, the ones i listen 2 the LEAST are:

Rave (too "pop'ish", though TGRES and ILUBIDTUA are both excellent songs)

Diamonds and pearls (I really don't know, it's got many great songs, but i rarely put it on)

Rainbow children (I listened 2 it more in the beginning, not much now, i guess it hasn't got that "diversity" of the songs that i like about Prince)

Wow, these choices for worst album blow me away. The closest I can get to agreeing with any of you is what Moonbeam said. Rainbow Children is a masterpiece (and I am not the least bit religious). The Symbol album is just so much fun and Diamonds and Pearls has several great tunes on it.

Most of all: NPS - A lot of crap, except "Come On" and "Wasted Kisses". This album was like boring muzak to me and I remember that I was about to decide: "Never buy a Prince album again before listening". That's my "worst Prince Album ever" - I wouldn't mention another two

Damn thats a tough one, i'll judge on my least listened to which are
;-

FOR You, Batman and NPS. All though do have flashes of brilliance. Have to say that Rave follows closely yet the Rave remix cd is so much better. Just goes to show how good it could have been if Prince had not tried too hard to follow trends and did what he did best with the backing of a major label.

wellbeyond

Diamonds & Pearls...("Daddy Pop", "Strollin", "Jughead", "Push", "Live 4 Love"...toss on Tony M and we've got massive stench in too many places on this CD...the good shtuff--"Cream", "Gett Off", "Insatiable", "Willing And Able"--weren't enough to overcome it...)

New Power Soul...(Prince on cruise control for 90% of the album...only "Come On" and "The One" are worth a 2nd listen...and "Wasted Kisses", the best song on the CD, is hidden..lol)

Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic...(The songs were, for the most part, pretty good...but the production values were muted, dull and ordinary...and the musicianship was close to non-existent)

Kamasutra - Definitely the worst one to listen to. Casual listeners should avoid this one. Mostly a boring repetitive melody.

For You - I'm yours is a true classic and Soft and Wet is very catchy. I also like the synth- extension at the end of Just as Long as We're Together, but as a whole, this album is just for fans like us.

Around the World in a Day - Sometimes you need to let an album "grow" into you with repeated listening. This is one of them. Too wierd back when it came out, specially after Purple Rain. I love it now, but it took me nearly 10 years to really grasp it as a whole and not just for the hit songs.

The close runner-up is Graffiti Bridge, which I considered one of his best when it came out. It just hasn't sustained the test of time. The main problem is the "intrusion" of the other artists with material that's not their best, with the exception of Tevin Campbell.

I thought COME was one of his best albums.

The worst - and I got rid of it soon after I bought it - was Purple Medley - . . a long discoy - track of purple songs all melded into a disco beat - horrible gak !

Instead of worst 3, I am posting could have been much better albums...

Chaos and Disorder eek ... Then after the Crystal Ball fiasco neutral... I stopped buying Prince's music mad... The Vault and Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - heard, but NEVER bought confused...not until the Rainbow Children did I see Prince get back into his groove. mr.green
