thanx for posting the lyrics, dansa (and boris) -- i must take offense to Prince's use of the phrase "take this bitter cup from me" in this context -- it makes light of all Jesus went through when He said these words Himself... but that's really nothing new for Prince -- to take words full of spiritual meaning and reduce them to a physical relationship -- i guess he really is back to his old self (Ephesians 4:21-24) | |

The song sounds HOT on a loud sound system. They played it before and after the show Thursday and I was groovin to it. I can't wait to hear 3121. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

When Jesus asked the Father, "if there be any way, take this bitter cup from me" -- there was no other way... only ONE way -- for Jesus, who never sinned, to die as a sacrifice to pay the wages of ALL sin for ALL mankind. I don't see Prince using this phrase correctly in the song. That's my only beef with it. Those words are full of spiritual meaning, and yet the meaning in the song is reduced to a "daughter" asking her father (Jehovah) to be happy. Where'd the need for salvation go? That's ultimately what Jesus is about -- He didn't come to make us happy, even spiritually happy, because we'd still end up in the same place without His sacrifice, the bitter cup He drank for us. | |

Its not as deep as you're making it to be. Prince wasn't even trying to preach any doctrine. Bitter cup..."please take the pain away" "please let the hurt stop".....its about the human condition.
