I always thought that this song somehow followed "There's Others Here with Us" and that's why you get that weird howl at the very beginning...

Im sure there's some kind of story about how Lisa came to sing it, but without references i cant remember it exactly. I think Prince always intended it for Lisa as he wanted to make Dream Factory a more inclusive record for the Revolution, but Lisa didnt have enough confidence in her own voice to do it. Anyway, i think that everyone bar susan Rogers had to leave her alone in the studio, in order for her to record it, and it turned out really good.
Its ashame its never had the commercial release it justifies as its a beautiful melody. | |

ive heard the "whoo" before, I always thought it gave the song a certain "live" vibe to it.You know ,like crowd noise. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I always listened to the Prince version in 1988 on the bootleg "Chocolate Box", and in that one it is a direct segue from "Moviestar". The girl snoring is going, Prince says "that's dog'd", and then you hear the beat of "Place in Heaven" starting with the snoring. It's as if it's the girl's bedtime song. It does kinda give it a live vibe. Everytime i hear it I'm like "There's no way this was recorded infront of an audience....or am I mistaken?" Anyway that's really startin 2 bug me.
