I actually miss the symbol.lol

He really was cooler when he was a symbol. His music had more mystery and more fire. The critics made fun of him, but the artists really appreciated him sticking up for artists rights, and it got him to write these really interesting songs. The obscurity made him better, artistically. I know this is selfish of me, but Prince, hated and unpopular is my kind of guy. Funk the religious goof, who preens on teevee and lives in shee shee beverly hills.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Interesting...his music was really great during that time. He wasn't afraid of mixing sexuality and God back then. He did seem really unhappy then though so as a fan it was kinda painful to watch because it was obvious that he was feeling very ganged up upon. It is nice to see him looking happier nowadays. biggrin

Never really cared for the symbol sad Because HIS NAME IS PRINCE AND HE IS FUNKY. I'm in agreement with Krystal666-he did seem alittle unhappy at this time.

One good thing about the prince years was that it kept the casual fans at a distance. There's nothing more anoying than hearing people say "Prince? Oh, I love Prince, I really liked Purple Rain..." when you know that they probably never even listened to the thing. Once he changed his name it really alienated a lot of people. It made people take sides and in someways challenged us fans to justify to ourselves why we were following this artist. It was like he was this cool underground artist again for a while.

Although having said all that, I'm glad he's back to Prince. He does seem a lot happier and relaxed these days, and that can only be a good thing. And his music is definately back on the way up since he changed it back.

The symbol was the bomb. His style was awesome at that time. So was the music. Too much hate against it, though. It was good shit.
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

I liked him better before he had his first record contract. That's when he did the shit!

Oh, this is rich. With the exception of the Gold Experience, the hatin' and complainin' during the prince era, on this site at least, was about, well, where it is now. lol
But it sure makes for a good laugh at 2:10 in the morning.
