Sometimes It Snows In April-WOW!

I've been having a bit of a Prince CD spree and brought 3 of his albums in HMV earlier this week.
One of those albums was "Parade"
Having given it a quick listen over I was only digging 2 of it's tracks.
"Kiss" and "Anotherloverholenyohead"
Then, by chance I left the CD running till the end and was absoulutely entranced by "Sometimes It Snows In April"
OMG!
It must be the best ballad ever written.
Please share your thoughts on this AMAZING track biggrin
Only the $$$ can make me happy...Unless you think otherwise baby!

Indeed, one of the man's finest works and perhaps the best song on Parade.

Give the album a few spins, and the rest of the songs should click with you - The first 4 tracks are my favorites, as they're sequenced in a really cool way - For some reason they remind me of walking down a street and running into several totally different parties or something. biggrin

HEAT INDEED!!!!!

2 TRACKS?? That's IT??? 2 Tracks???

Mountains? New Position? Life Can Be So Nice? Do You Like?

The WHOLE CD is bangin'. It's different from anything he's done, but consists of some of his nouveau-funkiest works!

But I digress... Sometimes it Snows... is a very nice song. I had a friend of mine get hit by a car right around the time of that albums release. He didn't die, but he was never the same. That song reminds me of him whenever I hear it.

But I digress again... 2 SONGS?????

Clean out the earwax!!! lol...

Enjoy the CD newbie! wink
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

"Those kind of cars don't pass u every day"

One of my all time favourite Prince lyrics.

Give the album a few more spins. It is a grower.

It took me a while to really like it, but it's great !
Shut up already, damn.

Sometimes It Snows is my least fave track on that album...but Parade ROCKS! thumbs up!

Mountains
Girls & Boys
New Position
Kiss

those are the jams... dancing jig
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Didn't he do all the drums to the first four songs in one sitting, without any breaks inbetween?

I found it to be an amazing Joni Mitchell style ballad when I first heard it. It's one of my favorite songs from that era. I was always disappointed that he never did anything similar in the future but then discovered that Wendy & Lisa wrote the music for this and Mountains. If you like the style of those tracks you might like their first album, too.

Do you often by chance leave the CD running til the end? Is this a form of behaviour for you that tends to happen frequently?

While I haven't heard every single track Prince has ever released, SISIA is probably my personal favourite - IF I had to chose. The lyrics are so fantastic and the music is heartbreaking. A mini-masterpiece!

The Uptown/Per Nielsen books like Days of Wild or Turn It Up 2.0 are a realy treasure island for little Prince anecdotes. Mostly coming from recording engineers (sp? confuse) like Susan Rogers, in this case.

Prince also says "Wendy and Lisa" in such an unusual voice after the song ended.
touched

BTW, how exactly did it go down, W&L said to him that they wanted to quit the Revolution (as I understand it, as touring members) but wanted to keep doing music with him and then he decided to getrid of the Revolution altogether?

I don't really understand the reports on this sometimes, because they say that W&L told Prince they wanted to quit but the same books/reports also say that Prince fired them? How does that go together? confuse

No, W&L intended to quit the band, period, back in early '86. From the reports, it seems like they really wanted to contribute more, artistically, but would never have room for growth with Prince and due to Prince's controlling nature would not let them work with other artists, either. Prince actually dispatched Bobby Z to go and stop them at the airport. IIRC, Alan Leeds negotiated with them to stay on. After the Parade tour was over, Prince invited them up to his house and sacked them, then called Bobby Z while they were still there and sacked him, too, saying he was disbanding the Revolution.

I love hearing the song done live. The ONA DVD and box set versions sound great. And when do we get to hear the Musicology versions?
