Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife appreciation To me, this song is a classic to. I loved this song from the moment I heard it, but never heard too much buzz about it. Probably because the Emancipation CD was pretty much nixed by the airwaves because it came after the split from Warner Brothers.
Beautiful song though. The part where he says... "... sight for sore eyes" just brings the "bitch" out of me. VERY moving. Very emotional. He was obviously very much in love with Mayte at the time, but I think that's the way we all want to feel about our loved one. What are your thoughts about this song? The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

In terms of expressing 'LOVE', this song ranks very near to 'Adore' in my book. Which says something considering Aodre is one of my three fav Prince tracks ever.
I talked a friend who had never heard it before into playing it for his then fiancee and they ended up making it thier wedding song.

This is one of my favourite Prince songs of all time. It came at a time in my life that I could really relate to it.
It ended up being my wedding's 'First Dance' with my wife - and YES we're still married!

IMO regardless of intentions you do not speak of other women in your wedding song.

I'm pretty sure the song is about giving up everything other than your wife... Other women, air, food, etc...

I'm pretty sure the song is about giving up everything other than your wife... Other women, air, food, etc... Like I said regardless of intentions he still talks about sleeping with other women in his marriage song. Also, I don't think he is talking about giving up air, food, and water he is saying that she is essential to him like air, food, and water.

Beautiful song. I love how he parallels physical relationships with the earthly elements of survival.
