her name is "Ashley Tamar Davis" she recorded a few songs with Prince in the early 90's one called "On your own" this woman is not related to Larry, so whatever theories you have in ya head get em out. the woman got skills. its it and thats that.

i'm not sure if i'm crazy about how she's being promoted, but i'm interested in hearing what a prince protegee record will sound like in 2006 as opposed to, say, 1986.

i guess the reason i'm not thrilled with the way they're trying to hype her is, they're using prince's fame to draw attention to her. that's always been a hit or miss method, but it's never really resulted in any substantial off-shoots that haven't continued to owe their public persona to prince.

i mean, we don't know what this woman sounds like or what her whole deal is. we just know that prince is doing some shows with her and that tamar is his latest "thing". at the very least, NPGMC should already have a little bio page up about her, or maybe even a streaming audio clip of one of her songs...not even an entire track, just a sample.

as it is, i'm only interested in her right now because of prince's involvement. what other reasons are there to care? that's all the info i have available!

I think Prince is pretty much up there with the true real funk soldiers and I think he can spot a good artist/performer/musician. I don't think he would support them anymore in selling their sex appeal or beauty FIRST over their talent today as he would have say, in the past. Back in the day.

The only thing is, I don't think people appreciate soul and funk today as they did way back when. And I think thats really to sad!
