"Dream" by Prince. Have you ever heard or saw a new song by an artist only to realize it was a dream? I have a few times and last night I had another one, this time by Prince and it was of his upcoming SNL performance. It excited me so that I had to get up and sing parts of it into my recorder.
This dream really took me back. The stage was packed with horns, what looked like a row of all male choir in the back, with Prince in the middle (like a pulpit) with assorted freaks golore. It was like a church in Uptown. There was this falsetto chant through the song that kept saying "Who gives a damn 'boutcha" and "freaky baby". Prince led the freaks through the aisles of the SNL crowd with his black trench coat open wearing a RED bikini. It was really funky and I know Prince is way too old to pull off a red bikini but like I said it really took me back. Hopefully his performance will be as memorable as this dream. P.S. The reason I recorded it was so I wouldn't forget. I'm a baby musician with 127 rough demos on tape, the last 27 for which I'm putting together something. I always wanted to apply the Liz Phair method to Prince, creating a proper follow-up to Purple Rain that Prince never did. Who knows he's shown a willingness to record other people's stuff in the past (lol wishful thinking).

For Liz Phair's debut album, she did a call and response to the songs on The Rolling Stones "Exile On Main St". She nixed a similair plan to do the same thing to Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life". I don't want to do a call and response to "Purple Rain" but rather, what album would Prince had released if he really wanted to follow up Purple Rain with something that took it further, yet what the audience was expecting.

Off topic, Exile From Guyville, Phair's debut album, is fantastic.
