What happened to Kevin Smiths TRC documentary?

Found this article on www.newsaskew.com, director Kevin Smith's (AKA Silent Bob) website -

RAINBOW COALITION - Director Kevin Smith, whose comedies always get R ratings for language, may make his first G movie: He was asked by Prince, who not long ago swore off swearing, to direct a documentary centered on his upcoming The Rainbow Children, a jazz-fusion-y concept album "steeped in biblical history". Smith says Prince sought him out because "he seemed to dig on Dogma, particularly how we tackled race, creed, and religion." The doc won't be "about him as much as what he refers to as The Truth" and will consist largely of footage shot at a Minneapolis fan festival, where Smith and Prince led focus groups discussing everything from the ridiculous (i.e., the record industry) to the sublime. "Lifelong fans talked about how he'd been so reclusive until recently," says Smith. "He agreed and gave the credit to God." When the director finishes August's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, he hopes to do a one-on-one with Prince that would help viewers "get their heads around why he's suddenly more into Jesus...[But] the first question I'd like to ask him is 'Do you ever just wear sneakers?'"

With that in mind, what happened? i know it got made so where is it?

I was too ugly, so they had to destroy the film

It's probably better left in the can. it was a documentary filmed during the 2nd celebration and the discussions about society, culture, religion, the bible, spirtuality... probably got a little too deep to release as a film perse. Kevin Smith made comments about how strange Prince is on his website saying Prince would talk cryptically to him--and many times had no idea what he was talking about.
Some of the spots were used as part of a Best Buy/TRC ad, but nothing more ever came of it. (and i don't think KS minds it either)

Thanks for that.Kevin isn't alone in not getting what Prince says. Why does he have to talk in riddles all the time? I saw that TV interview with Smith and Prince was apparently going on about "big snakes giving birth to little snakes that in turn grow into big snakes and how would you know your father" or something like that!
hmm

That's my one criticism about Prince. He talks bollocks sometimes.

Pity, I like Smith's stuff it could have been good to see. With him being a big Prince fan, i'm sure he'd have done his best to make Prince appear more normal than he sometimes comes across.Whether Prince would want that is another story.

concordance

if one person does not understand another's analogies, that does not make the stories "bullocks." There are many levels of speech, just as there are many depths to a song or a painting, or a plateful of food. It's your choice in life whether u want to swim on the surface or dive deep. If one person does not see something, it doesn't mean it isn't there.

If one wants to communicate effectively, then one expresses himself clearly without being intentionally cryptic. What people will see is a pretension and insincerity. These are likely the skeptics who didn't buy into NPGMC. Folks know a load of crap when it falls on them.

COMON

At the soundcheck on London 5th Prince made a comment that he'd been up all night watching a tape of yesterdays concert and how it was too funky. A woman actually had the guts to shout out "RELEASE IT!" Prince was at the keyboards and I'm sincerely not sure whether or not he realised what she meant or whether he thought it was a request to sing 'Release it' off Graffiti Bridge (there was a few seconds delay before the woman shouted)

Anyway he didn't reply and thats the last we'll ever hear or see of it.

Personally I wouldn't want to see teh Rainbow Children documentary- all the religious stuff- it might put me off Prince for ever more!

It will be promised as a DVD release for joining the 2003 NPGMC, then gradually (after they've cashed your check) downplayed until it's called an "idea" - but only after repeatedly ignored attempts on your end to garner more information regarding its release.
