song appreciation: Little Red Corvette

after having a gander at the 'lalala hehehe' thread, i thought to myself which of the purple one's tunes deserved another apprecation thread...and although so much has been written bout LRC b4 i thought-ynot?

its the consummate prince tune - good melody, soaring solos and synths as well as lyrics which are filthy - and it good to get on DOWN to. When that song reaches its ('ahem') climax, it truly is like a religious experience (the bit with the organ and the 'girls got an ass like i neva seen', before just spraying the track in ejaculatory guitar).one bad-ass mother f*cker of a tune!

wot the rest of ur org-ers think?

Glad to see the trend go on BUT title it:
Song Celebration:

That way it goes witth the theme of The Celebration. Include the ":" and the first letters in CAPS for consistency.

Think of it as a series. I think you can still edit it as the author of the thread.

Thanks!

As for Little Red Corvette, I love the 12" Dance Version. It's got extra singing and some funny stuff by Prince. Too cool!

The extra guitar parts are fantastic! Really funkier with an extra kick drum beat and you can hear the Linn LM-1 rim shot more right before the double clap. Plus the synth bass is is more prominent.

Funny that this version fades out and I wonder for how much longer it goes? It's probably a Vault thing.

This song sounds like nothing else. The whole production is different than anything ever recorded. To me it's Prince's "Born to Run." He labored over it until it was a perfect pop single with great solos, singing and breakdowns. Little Red Corvette is Prince!

LRC is Princes version of the cliched rock song that uses the metaphor of a car as a woman tune done perfectly, Prince style. ( see Pink Caddiclac by Bruce, Trampled Underfoot by Led Zep, Panama by Van Halen ).The extended mix is a revelation imho because of the synths, bass and velvet sweat.

I like the intertwining intro of synth, drums, and vocals. Gotta love Dez Dickerson and his headband in the video. Outlaw music.

I love so much the beginning of this song and the lyrics, they are so deep and beautiful! I like when he says, 'you need to find a love that's gonna last, because despite the girl having so many lovers and being with him also, he's telling her that what she really needs is love, (with all that love she got to give:): I always appreciate this song...lovely thread!smile

I love how you can't understand a frigging thing Prince says on this song... so most everyone thinks that it's just a nice song about a car. Little do they know!

One of my friends LOVES "Little Red Corvette" and nearly had a heart attack when she found out the lyrics "Girl you got an ass like I've never seen... and the ride, I say the ride is so smooth you must be a limousine."
I mean, like, where is the sun?

Ohmigod...BOOB?!?!? That name is so SILLY! Um, if your name is BOOB that must mean you like talking about boobs, right? Duh! But does that mean you have one boob? AWWwww that would be so sad!

Gawd, I'm so sick of telling people my boobs are real! I mean, just because they have increased 5 sizes in the past 3 years, does not mean they're fake! Duh!

Back in college I took a class called POPULAR MUSIC and the professor often took a whole class to listen and talk about one song. Yes, one of those times the song was "LITTLE RED CORVETTE" and it was basically his example of the PERFECT POP SONG: the lyrics especially were praised. I thought it was pretty cool myself! smile

" I guess I shoulda known by the way u parked your
car sideways that it wouldn't last..."

How could someone not love those lyrics! Although I do remember not understanding the "pocket full of horses" part when I was a kid.

My 11th grade history played "1999" one day and had us analyze the lryics as a reflection of where we are (were) as a society. I was the only white kid boppin' his head and drew a lot of comments and stares for digging the song.

I just thought of another cool element about Little Red Corvette.

How musically, it comes down to a softer sexy little conversation/story about Prince's conquest, then for the main chorus it takes off LIKE a Corvette would then back slows back down again!

It's subliminal, sexual and it's really effective! It happens throughout the song, I like when it happens right after the guitar solo, which brings me to my next mussing...

...FACT: Dez Dickerson's guitar solo was a paste job! meaning, it was taken from two different solos and Prince didn't feel them until he actually combined the two to make what is one of the best guitar solos in popular music history!

Cool huh?

The 12" dance version is killer, although the version that made "1999" is great but overrated in my opinion.

LRC is one of my top 3 favorite Prince songs of all time, the other two being Adore and Kiss. Although When Doves Cry is a close 4th. Definitely LRC is a Prince classic!!!
