Review of P and Tamar at the Roxy from Housequake. Courtesy of JSEVEN at NPGMC
Oh my y'll. Apparantly, the Viper Room show last week was just a very small taste of things 2 come our way. The Roxy was Rocking Steady. DJ Rashida spinning the tunes while the purpleheadz were rolling in. No problems with a guest list as everyone got in. In fact, there could have been even more people who could have fit. 4 those in attendance, they were treated 2 real music. From the old 2 the new, from the tall 2 the small. Shoot, even white boys were playing that funky music. 4 those in line outside b4 the show, u could hear the band warming up and some mind-blowing guitar solos and rocking drums. Was that an instrumental version of "3121" being played? I don't know about u but that jam was hellafunky. Just can't wait 2 hear it with words! Oh lawd. Doors opened around 11:15 and I want 2 make very clear, every1 got in without any problems. The show started a little round 12:15 with a bigger stage and the same line-up as b4, "Every Little Step of my Heart" (If I get song titles wrong, please 4give me) was the 1st track and it followed the suit of the Viper Room show but with much more room 4 everyone 2 move. P adv 2 "pick up u're cell phone....it's gonna get funky!" During the 2nd track, getwild (look 4 his review later) was pulled up and was at the center of 3 girls attention including Tamar. Getwild was asked what he does 4 a living n said "manage rockstars". They then sang the Dawn Penn track "u don't love me (No No No) 2 him as he tried not 2 blush. Alan/Aaron, whatever she called u man. It was funny. They did several covers, but, the new stuff was phenomenal. "Milk & Honey" is the cut. Something that VB mentioned a little while ago "Redheaded Stepchild" got every1 jumping up and down. Like I said, the Roxy was now Rocking Steady. It's only the middle of the show and that guitarist from the Northside of Minni was already chanting with the crowd "It Ain't Over". It sure wasn't. With a call of ice cream, the strobe lights took effect on Tamar and Prince. What a sight. In front of a crowd that was starving some 4 new fresh talant, they delivered on all cylanders. People were pulled up on stage 4 "What Have U Done 4 Me Lately". Gia, u were bout 2 hurt somebody. They all did the slide 2 perfection. Now, they did the sister (JJ) but not the brother (MJ) this time. After a few guitar solos that cut thru the sound system, Prince went in2 "Play That Funky Music White Boy." Did he just do that? Tell me he did not just do that. Oh lawd. He did. The mic was given from Tamar 2 a funky white boy in the crowd who nailed it. Now, finding another 1 2 do the 2nd verse was a challange so the band flipped it on the 1 and went in2 "Love Rollercoaster" and then back. 2 finish it up after people were being left damp and sweaty in the funk, They went in2 a looser version of "Partyman" and "That's Allright". The chants of "It Ain't Over" started again as Prince put the mic on the crowd as Tamar and her band left the stage. What a night. It seems there was a movie premiere 4 Sanaa Hamri's "Something New" earlier in the night but it seems the red carpet 2 that must have lead 2 the Roxy. How else could you explain the likes of Elijah Wood and Serena Williams there? Lemmy from Motorhead n David Spade along with the funky souls of Sheila E., Larry & Tina Graham and others whose names escape me now. Tamar looked stunning sporting the fro. Man, can that girl sing! Prince was rocking the blue with a black shirt. Cora, Josh, Mr Hayes and the twins held it down. I am telling u, Music Club, when this show goes 2 u're town, do not miss it! Simply awesome. MORE 2 FILL later. On a closing note, Prince said several times "Beautiful, Loved & Blessed" 2 describe Tamar. I tell u though, it was the crowd that was feeling "Beautiful, Loved & Blessed" all night. (will add more later. Got less than 2 hours til I gotta wake up n get 2 work. Much love.)

Thank you for the report.
You shouldn't call it a review though. I mean, there is obviously no attempt at discerning anything flawed about it. It's an enthusiastic report. All in all, it doesn't make me want to rush and see Tamar because of the emphasis on covers.
