I grew up in the caribbean listening pretty much to reggae, calypso, and whatever top 40 and r&b filtered down to the radio stations there. i liked every prince song i heard, which was pretty much lets go crazy, purple rain, kiss, and little red corvette, and sott. I had no idea who the man was or of any other works. i decided one day to get "his album"...i was only 15. Well, that album was Lovesexy. For the first 2 weeks, i thought, what IS this? Never heard ANYTHING like it. I developed after that a serious liking for it. When i moved to the usa the next year, i immediately went to a music store to search 4 more prince. Imagine my shoch and exhilaration upon seeing 9 albums besides on the shelves. I bought each one as i could afford 2. Prince's music became the soundtrack of my life too. I can't begin to list the songs that blew me away. I mean he was so in a different place than ANY other musician/songwriter, (even other legends and geniuses) As a musician/singer/songwriter myself, I have been SO affected by the man's body of work, quality of work, genius of his work, arrangements of his work and by the man's main instrument, which i consider 2 B his voice (mine too)

There's much more 2 say, but I'll leave it at the fact that: I'm new 2 this org. and I'm SO happy 2 find a place 2 go 2 express the joy I feel with being a lover of prince's music. I look forward 2 meeting as many of u as possible. Anyone in Milwaukee out there?

PS- I love that Vicki Waiting is listed as one of your favorite songs. I don't know why, but Batman is one P cd that's ALWAYS in heavy rotation in my pad, and that's my fave song on the cd!

I was almost the same way you were, feltbluish. I heard a couple of Prince songs on the radio that i liked and when I saw his discography and listen to some of the samples I was shocked at the music he made...I am one of those newbies Prince enthusiants that is trying to stock up on all of the albums the man has made. I am in the minority when I say that Prince 90's output is great..most people don't seem to agree with me...and I kinda see why considering his 80's output is amazing and innovative.

Well, I'm a bit older than some o' y'all...so my 1st Prince experience had 2 do with the song, "I Wanna Be Your Lover" (b4 the Princebonics, even!)...but I knew even then that this was one dude I wanted 2 know more about. I've been hooked ever since.

Lovesexy is still my fav too...
To me Lovesexy is what Prince is: sexy, spiritual, focused, thunderous, quirky, spontaneous, cheeky, socially aware, and incredibly witty.

I find it best listened to with headphones- because there is so much going on, with all his characters and voices.

To the average listener it must sound like a barrage of sounds, but i love weaving thru it.

thats pretty much it...no "pop" on that one. it is a masterwork, lawdy, the production!!!

i'm actually astonished, most fams i talk 2 don't consider lovesexy one of their favs.

There is absolutely NO other album that compares with LOVESEXY!!! ... case closed...

SOTT and Lovesexy are the best Albums...What prince did on those albums was never heard before at that time. He was at his artistic top in those days.
