The first four albums Does anyone on the board like listening to For you, Prince, Dirty Mind and Controvesy and actually love the fact that it sounds dated? I was born around this era so I wasn't able to enjoy this music when if first came out so I love to hear music from different time periods because music today all sounds the same to me.
I kinda like the fact that those albums could not pass as hits of today because it was very authentic and showed what the atmosphere was like when it was recorded. I think todays music...and the media...and society for that matter nowadays is very jadded and cynical and I think there is an innocence to that music and the lyrics were much more expressive when it came to feelings and told stories much better. Like when Prince was describing what was going on in Uptown I can see it like a movie playing in my head...or... Annie Christian I can see a crazy white girl with frazzled hair and no bra on toting a gun. That is what I really appreciate about Prince's earlier work..the authentic sound of the day and the stories of his lyrics. How about you. Do you appreciate the fact that Prince's first few albums could not possibly be passed off as today's music?

I think that is not really relevant. What is relevant, is the fact if I like it or not. And I tell you: I see myself more often listening to For You, Prince, Dirty Mind and Controversy as to the other albums... (okay, so maybe with the exception of PR)

PS.: I was born in 1982, and I do love the early 80s/late 70s sound (Linn drums, the beat, the groove, the then used synths like the Prophet).

I don't listen to em all that much. But I do like Prince and Dirty Mind. There are parts of For You I like and Controversy is ok and was foreshadowing of things to come. It's my least favorite of the 4. Christian Zombie Vampires

like superspaceboy my fav ones are Dirty Mind and Prince.
For You is ok but i hardly ever listen to it and i don't like Controversy at all. There are 4 great tracks but that''s it. As an album it's probably the one Prince album i like least of all. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I really like Dirty Mind & Controversy.
They came out at a time when my tastes in music first began to mature & expand. So when I listen to 'em, the quality of the music is enhanced by cool memories.

Dirty Mind is one of my favorite Prince albums, and Controversy is up there, too.
I like For You better than Prince, but I don't listen to either of them very much.

I listen to Prince all the time and yes the fact that it sounds innocent makes it more timeless. U don't get that type of originality anymore. I especially like STILL WAITING and IT'S GONNA BE LONELY .Love em' .
