MPLS Music Scene I was just listening to the Jayhawks and realised that there are quite a few acts that I really like from MPLS. Prince, Jayhawks, Semisonic, The Replacements. All these artists are from there and as far as i know choose to reside there permanently. For those who are from MPLS, I was wondering if there is a real sense of pride in your music and those acts that have made a name for themselves. Is the town bubbling with creativity or what? Did anyone catch the Semisonic show that was put on a few weeks back at First Avenue? How expensive a town is MPLS to live in? | |

Actually, you would think there would be, but in fact there is none. When Prince hit it big it was a big deal, and for many years. And now days when newer bands hit it big like Semisonic, there is absolutly no mention. So no, being from the MPLS area, I would say there is no pride in the local music scene.
As far as Prince goes around town, he is more or less an after thought. A reminence of a magical time gone by. I think most people around the MPLS area don't even know he's around town anymore. He used to be front page news, now if an artical is written about him (like Another Open Letter to Prince) it's on the second to last page in the entertainment section. As far as this years Celebration, everyone I talked to (who wasn't a known Prince fan) had no idea it was going on, with an exception of the cily of Chanhassen. This state of Minnesota is so ignorant, it has absolutly no idea what it has or what it is missing out on... "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.
