Worst album or worst fans

With fans like these...lol. I also have albums I like more than others, but unlike most I appreciate almost every note Prince has created. Even those I don't particularly care for I find interesting as a look inside the mind of a genius. As a performer it must be disheartening to see your fans tear down the work you put your heart and soul into. It seems some fans get a charge out of letting everyone know how much something is "shit" or "crap".

Really it is the listener themselves who usually show their own limitations when discussing Prince's music. People seem to argue with such certainty which is the worst of Prince when just by scanning this thread one has to realize that the opinions expressed are just enforced by the listener's own prejudices.

Prince's abilities to basically do any type of music invariably draws a cross-section of people with varying tastes in music. So he is always guaranteed to offend once he steps outside the comfort zone of the particular listener.

As I have argued before the majority of Prince fans are "niche" fans. There is a certain Prince that they are attracted too (see vainandy for example). Of course there is nothing wrong with that, but Prince is the genius and not Vainandy. The greatest thing about Prince is that he won't allow the Xpectations (limitations) of his audience to hinder his exploration of different styles of music.

His newest song is quite a beautiful piece of music. Is it revolutionary? No but I've never heard Prince do a song in this vain. He is still pushing outward in his music. It's just now his change to the naked eye is much more incremental as opposed to the leaps and bounds he made as a youngster. That is only logical. It seems as he gets older and moves further away from the sounds of PR or SOTT or dirty mind people become more frustrated with him. He will never return to those days (he can't). Just receive what he has to offer with a open mind and if u like it great, but if not why not take the negativity elsewhere.

What's missing from the org is any real intellectual discourse. Most of the treads appear to be the utterances of juveniles (and they just might be lol). It seems a lot of the more thoughtful contributors have left or just lurk these days. And we are left with "shit" and "crap" and the ever popular "cringe". Maybe the moderators could carve out an area for serious discussions. Everyone could post there usual threads but the moderators could pick the more thoughtful ones for a special area. The cream of the crop so to speak. Just a thought.

Maybe these fans get frustrated because Prince has grown up and they haven't.

Actually a very insightful thing I said. Like when a guy has other guys for buddies all his life, and then the guy meets a woman, and the guys he has for buds feel left out, and they do the "have a girlfriend but don't let it get in the way of guy time" bit. Maybe Prince has "married a different girl" by making the music grow up, but still, maturity is a desirable thing.

i like alot of different music .... but what always attracted me to Prince in the first place was the originality ...

nowadays ... its very natural to (prince) having lost some of that "originality" ... but true to form .... sometimes he does surprise me ... and that is what i always liked about him ... its kinda like ... as you get older ... the ride might not be that amazing - but enjoy the ride !

I believe this is very much the case.
