Prince: The Movie..?

Okay so there has been lots of movies based on RockStars and the like. (Jacksons: An American Dream being the movie that first comes to mind. Elvis had had a few movies made about him. Heck, MC Hammer even had a movie made about him.)

I'm left here..wondering and pondering..why no Prince movie yet? And will there ever be one? I mean Prince is one of the most amazing artists to come along and stay revelent, not to mention impact music lovers and the next generation of artists all the same.

With him now being in the rock and roll hall of fame, isn't it about time, Hollywood came knocking to make a movie about P? Thoughts?

(On a side note..who would you want to see play Prince in a movie?) cool

I think Prince would want a say as to the script, who plays what parts and the whole thing from beginning to end. I don't know how true to his life it would get.

Who to play the part of Prince? hmmm
canada

With only a few exceptions, those sort of movies about great performers always come up short. Why? Because the actor playing the part can never be as charismatic as the original artist.

Can you imagine someone playing Prince being picked apart on here? 'He doesn't walk like that' 'He doesn't play guitar like that' 'He doesn't gurn his face like that' 'He never wore that' etc etc. Hell, we pick the original Prince apart as it is!

If they were to make a real movie about just one phase of his career it could work, but not a full biopic. The exploding of the Minneapolis scene for instance, but then again even a movie like that could only work if Prince himself would be dead. smile

What, something like Prince coming up as a new artist in downtown Minneapolis playing in local clubs and competing with rival bands to make it big...

errr... hasn't that been done?!

biggrin

Hah. Okay. I didn't even think of that!

"The true story behind Purple Rain". But it could have scenes of Prince consistently mistaking Wendy for Susannah when begging for some lovin' and Vanity getting it from a gorilla before meeting Prince. That sort of thing.

why would they give Prince any say? most (if not all) of thoes Bio Pics were unautorised anyway...i wonder if the reason they did not do one was out of respect?

well i think that what made the movies on MJ work was the current controverseys going on. people want to tune into that shit. the ones on little richard, the temptations are due to the interst in the era (I.E. the 80s are retro but not seen as a pop culture epoch passing yet) Prince will have to murder someone, die tragically or make a illegal stock investment to get his own movie. or simply time. MC hammer i am sure needed the money.

SenseOfDoubt

uh, noprince movie, please. I remember Stone's movie about The Doors. (Anyone here who likes that one?).

And I recall a "Lady Diana" movie from GB, done shortly after she died. Uh, oh no. And there is a certain rumour for an Ayrton Senna movie (whom I adore)... Stop it!

I really doubt any filmaker can screw this movie up too much, unlike the other movies mentioned, "The doors" "Ray" & "Walk the line", Mr Nelsons life, as all us here know, has been chock full of humor, drama, silliness, sexy women, & more great music than all the other movies mentioned combined.
It would make a great popcorn movie!

Johnny Depp could definitely pull it off.

But I think that Joseph Fiennes has the right look and build;

Yeah, Purple Rain was close, but Michael's fans will say "Moonwalker" is sort of a movie based on Michael. Hmmm hmmm

And on another unrelated note, why would P need to give permission? They made an un-official movie about Michael Jackson. And what can I say? I liked it! I'm a sucker for a biopic movie about performers I like. (IE - Michael Jackson.) However, I'd love to see a Prince biopic with or without his music in it.
